The IT at Delta mostly works,......it's just you have no explanation as to why or when. Like converting your timecard to your actual pay.....good luck!

Not all SC callouts are minimum-time. In my experience, most aren't. YMMV.

What guidance can pilots lean on to understand how far they are allowed to be away from base on SCR? How many pilots who drive to JFK are 200 miles or say 2-3 hours drive from base (no traffic, because NYC traffic is utterly insane).

“Promptly available” is the book answer. There is absolutely not a hard time limit, but is generally agreed to be about 2ish hours to the nearest domicile if a co-domicile base like NYC (LGA/JFK/EWR or LAX/SNA/ONT). So… if you live in Philly, EWR meets that expectation regardless of the fact it might take you 3+ hours to drive to JFK. Also, traffic is not assumed, so if you do hit major traffic, you are still okay. Just keep Crew Scheds informed.

It’s actually not typical (though definitely still possible) to get an immediate report/leave now type call though. More likely is a report less than the 12 (about to become 18) hours from notification. My most recent SC assignment, I knew about it 10 hours in advance.

Having said all that, don’t be out of position. Some folks who live 4 hours away from base will drive to a point within that “promptly available” distance for the day and sit at a Starbucks, or similar. No need to actually be at the airport, ever.

Hope that helps.

This isn't technically a reserve question, but a question about the quasi-reserve we do while awaiting OE. It's been a while since I did OE...I know we get assigned a trip initially with at least 30 hours notice, but after that first trip is done are we essentially on LC? How much notice do we have to get for the next trip?

I looked around in the SRH and PWA and couldn't find much. In addition, let's say you finish all your OE but you still have 4 days of NOE left in the month (as a line holder) are we on the hook on those days in any way? TIA

My understanding is that when you are waiting on OE (first, second, third trip, whatever) is that you are under a requirement to be constantly available for contact by the company. This means that you are never on rest, so you’re basically always going to need 30 hours notification in order to be 117 legal for the trip.

There is a training alert on this exact subject which has the answers you seek. I’ll see it I can find it…

*edit* Training Update 21-02 “OE notification” has your answers. You may need to look on the ALPA site to find it. A basic summary is also on page 155 of the SRH.

Thanks, found it. So basically during NOE we are on 'reserve' and 117 applies. I guess being a line holder once my line check is complete I can't be assigned anything further. Just trying to do a modicum of planning...

While true for NYC, not true for LAX.

PWA 23.S.10 says SC is measured only from LAX.

Not west coast based, but I seem to recall used to be LA included the co-terminal airports for SC “promptly available” purposes, as NYC does. But then that changed. Anyone have insight into why (purely outta curiousity)? Seems San Diego falls (barely) within the zone of reasonableness on distance to LAX, so just wondering.
