They have a criteria that gives points to everything on the app. Hours. Jobs. Awards. Everything. Possibly even subjective somewhat.
When they need people they take the highest scores currently available and send out a bunch of “day 1” assessments. From that they have a bank of folks to keep the pipeline going.
where you fall in the ebb and flow of the points is relative. Hours matter but in my experience helping folks it isnt end all for sure. A good app and making the most out of all your achievements means a lot to Delta.
I am by no means the best guy ever, but my app was awesome and worth every hour i spent and dollar I paid for coaching.
also. Keep in mind an internal rec after a big update is always a good idea.

Im also at LUV but now I’m in that situation you were talking about and I’ll be year 3 in May. I originally had a Delta CJO but couldn’t take it due to military obligations. Still have my app in at Delta, but I’m starting to really reconsider what I should do once year 3 comes. Is Delta still worth the jump from Southwest given the new contracts? Base doesn’t matter to me because I’ll be commuting either way.
What you need to ask yourself is “do I want to fly a 737 for the next 30 years?”. I assume that’s about what you have if you’re still in the military.
Seniority progression/Captain upgrade at LUV and Delta will likely be similar due to them having a single fleet.
Not familiar with LUV’s commuter policy, but that’s something to consider too. (As well as where you’ll plan to commute too…frequency to hubs, etc)

Hey everyone. Would like an honest opinion if I’m competitive enough with the “slow down” in hiring this year.
I was at 9E for 2 years, hoped over to the Luv airline that flies 737s and have been here since late October.
2250 total time
1050 turbine time
50 of that in the 737, the other 1000 in the RJ.
No TPIC
1100 PIC time primarily from instructing days.
1 checkride failure, initial LOE at 9E. Passed both recurrents there and had no setbacks at Luv training. Couple stage check failures at my Part 141 flight school.
No military time, I do have a Bachelors. Did no extra work at 9E, no union, pilot recruitment work, etc.
I have two former instructors of mine at DL who said they’d write me a letter.
I would guess I’m still not quite competitive as both of my DL friends said they were around 3000 when they got the call. I’m hoping to get a shot sooner rather than later because I’m really enjoying my current airline a lot with the new contract and once year 2 pay hits, that’s a completely different and harder decision to make. Delta has always been the dream but at the end of the day, seniority is everything.
Thank you!

I think you'd be competitive but take my opinion with a grain of salt. I'm an older prior-military guy with over 5000 hours (3000 in heavy yet), 1000 turbo-prop and letters of recc (though not from DL employees). NO 121 time (small amount of 135) and a national level award (for recovering a bomber with 4 engine loss on one side). I applied to DL in NOV and haven't heard a peep since. Though, they are not my first choice anyway due to Domicile and gun stance, and it may be due to the slowdown or my age or lack of 121 time or they just don't like me.....

Let’s say you want to live in ATL
LUV- 1 fleet, so you’re competing against every other person in base for the same positions
DAL- 7 fleets, so the pool you’re competing against is much smaller as not everyone is on the same jet. Guys will go WBB or eventually move to WBA, opening NB captain positions.
You’ll also have the “I’m not learning French” contingent, along with the “I’ll never fly with a yoke again”.
I’d be willing to bet big money our junior 737A in ATL is vastly junior as a % seniority than a SWA 737 captain in ATL.
At the same time, we have peaked in our wave. The junior upgrades of last year are gone, and those being hired now shouldn’t expect captain that quickly. I’ll bet it will take a delta NH 4-5 years at least to be a captain plug.
How that compares to SWA…anyone have info?

Maybe he's referring to the time DAL chartered two round trip charters (at no cost) to Washington D.C. for the anti-gun demonstrations following the Parkland shooting incident? That was puzzling because on DL Net the comms were to the effect of, "Delta is remaining neutral in the guns rights debate."

I don't think being opposed to gun violence is the same as being anti-gun. I'm a gun owner so not anti-gun however I am opposed to gun violence, as I think most rational people probably are.
I'm sure there are people and 'news' sources that would interpret the flights as being anti-gun, however. We all see the world through the lenses we choose.

Before this devolves into a gun debate, I think choosing your ideal airline over a political stance as opposed to pay rates, commute policy, contract is beyond dumb.
So you align with an airline because they're for ABC today. Then the CEO leaves tomorrow and the next guy is all about XYZ. You gonna leave over that?

. Sorry, didn't mean to get this off-track into a gun debate, as others here have said. I'm new at this airline thing and here to learn. I was referring to the chartering after the shooting as well as them coming out in support of an AR ban after that. Of course, we're all agains gun violence (or you're nuts), but this was a stance, like many taken by businesses, in politics. Personally that turns me off and if it doesn't others, then so be it. The real issue I should have been focused on, is domiciles. Not convenient, and I'm too old to commute. So that, along with not "needing" to work, means I'll choose convenience of domicile (even if that means moving) over almost everything else.
