Thank you to those that replied about the reserve questions.

Can anyone chime in on this question? My buddy has the Covid vax exemption. If he bid an international category, what would be his restrictions, etc? He’s looking at NYC ER. Would his work life be miserable, complicated and just overall not feasible to be in that domicile and category with a vax exemption?

I am pure blood. International category. I haven't been back to ICN yet but I understand if you get a test you can go out. Thing is for me, I refuse to have a chemically treated stick shoved up my nose to check for a head cold so I guess I am stuck in the hotel. You can go out freely in Amsterdam and Paris. The ER has more destinations than that, but I think most of Europe is coming to it's senses

14 days off on reserve correct? Is seniority in your new-hire class determined by age as is the case for most airlines?

Yes roughly 13-15 off days per month on reserve depending on reserve guarantee days in the bid month and projected number of reserve pilots.

last 4 of SSN determines seniority with 9999 being most senior and 0000 being junior

Default NYC Commute/RSV 7ERA vs 73NA

Current Captain on the 737 coming over soon, and curious what would provide for a better QOL?

Hypothetically if I were commuting from another senior base to NYC to get a fast upgrade, would I be better off holding out for the 7ERA or staying on the 73NA (A role/plane I'm already comfortable with).

It's my understanding that the WB fleets get certain perks as far as stringing reserve days together, is that the same for the ER?

I'm assuming the plug for most fleets in NYC gets reserve?

Thanks!

Out reserve rules are essentially the same for NB and WB, with a few small exceptions like 3 vs 4 days of minimum duration blocks, and the number of day-off blocks you can have. Every fleet can string your entire reserve obligation to one block, but…. We have a system where you can be forced into certain days if not enough pilots bid reserve for that day (called “coverage”). For example, weekends could have coverage? Forcing you into several blocks vice one long block. It varies month to month, sometimes there is no coverage at all.

Generally, the 73 Captain is senior to the 7ER, recent bids have been a little wonky from historical norms though.

The plug does not always get Reserve, especially on WB fleets. NB is much more likely, but NY is the biggest NH base, so you won’t stay the plug for long as an FO.

FWIW, there has been much debate about how junior captain will go on various fleets in the medium term. I would not necessarily expect recent trends to become the norm. Good luck.
