That experience level is decreasing rapidly, and I think we need to do something about our training or we risk degrading that level of safety we’ve worked hard to achieve.

CRM & SOP only take you so far. That’s why you see a higher accident rate in the rest of the world. We had accidents with robust systems knowledge & deficient SOP/CRM, they often have the opposite.

As I said the first time, we need better systems training, and the only thing stopping it is money.
Amen! I roll my eyes at how little actual systems training is given. I’m UA, but it’s the same story. Where it gets fun is when some instructor/evaluator still thinks we should be able to recite the book, but they forget that even their own testing standard says that only bold items and immediate action items are required. You can’t demand varsity level knowledge when your company trains on the cheap and gives you grade school level training re: systems and FOM.

Interviews are the beginning of August. All those guys were pre-covid app reviews.

From my source they just started pulling new apps this week.

I think he was being sarcastic about the excessively long hold times people are dealing with when they call reservations...

Nah.

If you want the frat hazing nonsense of yore, go to the UK, EU or Australia or perhaps a few other expat places that pretend airline training is some kind of a "First Officer and a Gentleman" candidate school. CRM, SOP, procedures and checklist/QRH dicipline as well as overall dynamic SA are still areas that industry training hasn't yet mastered. The absolute last thing we need to do is spam everyone with "recite the book" trivia pursuit "varsity level" harassment campaigns at the expense of building up the foundations of human interaction and management using real world safety data based training that's actually relevant.

*STANDING OVATION*

*CLAPS FURIOUSLY*

Its hilarious how those foreign companies relentlessly drill their pilots on trivial stuff doing training then require automation in nearly all phases of Flight. I believe at EK above 10,000 ft its mandatory for the Autopilot to be on. Clear these guys for a visual approach and get your popcorn ready

I flew overseas and agree. Not only that but the self induced hazing during command courses to inflate their own monstrous egos was even worse.

EK requires auto thrust on in Airbus aircraft unless it is MEL’d or required to be off per the QRH. NO Manual Thrust allowed.

Hey did I mention 3.89 and deans list all 4 years. But alas, no TPS. Mom never hugged me either so now I’m just looking for attention and admiration.
It wasn't TPS.

I'm a rambling wreck. Apparently that holds something. Who'd a thunk.

Tm602. Be honest, you have a great story to tell. So tell them. That's what the HR piece is about. Don't be scared of it, own it and tell your story.

Best of luck to you in all sincerity.
