There’s just too much hiring for that. Disclaimer: Each NH is obligated to look at the playing field, numbers, and do their own research.
It's all a crapshoot. They were hiring 100+/month when I was hired and one of the reasons I chose the 73N was because I was sure my seniority would rise crazy fast over the other planes. As it turned out, I stagnated over the next few years as they put almost everyone on 7ER/320/717. I passed on the 7ER because I figured I would have stagnated on it, yet I would have actually enjoyed about 15-20% better seniority on it. Bottom line, it's a little bit of guesswork and a lot of luck. If I were a newhire, I'd probably go to the bus...makes for easier transitions down the road.

*Unless you're staying in NYC, then your seniority will likely explode in anything you pick.

You can make way more as a line holder doing green slips but you really have to do a lot of flying you can makes in my opinion a little bit less on reserve doing Greenslip’s if you’re not rolling thunder but you usually don’t have to work anywhere near as hard.
Agreed. Even with the lowered trigger, it's still A LOT of work to fly a full line AND fly GS on top of that. Borrowing from the bank and vacation/training can help but that only goes so far, and in the case of the bank, you'll have to pay it back eventually. Plus, I've only had a month or two where I've flown enough credit to pay back the bank in years...that's a lot of work.

Yep, even the 777 was horrible. The huge blocks of off days raised the bar for volume and quality of household responsibilities. Plus the yellow center of an egg always got in the way during meal time.

As a wise captain once said to young FO Gunfighter. "The problem with a GS is you have to fly it." If GS are going out regularly in a category, chances are reserves are filling up or getting close. In that scenario, you might as well fly GS and get your off days back. You are going to fly the ALV, so it might as well be GREEN.

Once you have access to DLNet (normally occurs before you have to submit your preferences), you will be able to see the category and overall seniority list on the Flights Ops section.

Check out http://widgetseniority.com

I’m also waiting on indoc & found lots of good info on the site comparing seniority in different jets at each domicile.

+1. And I think Curly gives free access to NH’s and CJO’s, at least for a time? Tons of good info available at a touch. It’s worth the few coins it costs, IMO.

Lots of G#2, G#3, G#4 on the trip coverage reports for the 7ER which means everyone is getting a crack at them, even the new hires.

There needs to be an asterisk on that post so a noob doesn't get delusional thinking he/she is going to get 4 x greenies the month after finishing IOE.

I've been in the same category for 4+ years, and a large majority of greenies go out during holidays or weekends, which is exactly when said noob is already on a RES on call day.

For those not familiar with how DL greenslips go out, the big picture is you can't get a 2nd one unless everyone junior to you who was eligible / available on that day got their 1st. So a senior guy getting a 2nd GS doesn't mean everyone junior to them in the entire category already has 1 greenslip.
