Dang a whole class from last year? I wondered what the average has been as I had heard the 8 weeks as well but I guess there was some catching up to do.

I'm not sure it matters. If a trainee is handed a document that says "When booking positive space to training, you must have one available backup flight," and he or she does not comply and subsequently late for training, both reasons would be valid for termination. Why do you think a PWA provision about commuting applies to a trainee on probation?

Are we running new hire classes all summer? Just curious because I know a lot of other airlines have stopped hiring - mostly due to aircraft delays and I was wondering if this affected us at all.

Scoop
They’ve been running a class of 30-35 every other week.

Because trainees are afforded the same commuting and positive space to training rules as any other pilot commuting or positive space traveling to training. If this is happening, it really needs to be brought to the attention of the union. I see no special carve outs for new hires in the FOM or PWA making their commute harder.

What is considered a good airframe and base or bad airframe and base these days?

good airframe and base = the one you can drive to work

bad airframe and base = the one you have to commute to.

Yeah I think that’s a completely subjective question that new hires aren’t qualified to effectively answer. Everyone has their own desires.

Could not have said it better. Pros and cons to them all.

There really isn’t an MD-88 equivalent anymore that consistently goes last.
