the downside is you will probably still have to go to NY for a bit until you convert to ATL and there is no guarantee you will get ATL on this bid (although I think it’s a good possibility on the 73N or 320)
NYC is pretty uncommutable right now. on the other hand If you are coming from a regional background ATL717 trips will be very similar to 50 seat flying with plenty of 4 and 5 leg days.

good news for you is if you are in the oct12 class you should be able to bid on the current AE that is open until the 14th. so you could get hired into NYC73N or 320 and potentially get awarded ATL before you finish indoc.

TO ANY New Hires on property by 14 Oct, make sure you find someone to help you bid in this AE if you want a base swap. It's quick and easy. Good luck!

There is something to be said for “bird in the hand”, true. But a better strategic move is to take a 7ER/320/73 to NY and bid to ATL in the next AE. There IS risk in that, but with the hiring we have going on, it’s a very low risk you’d be stuck in NYC for long, if at all.

Because you can bid better equipment (on which you are stuck for 2 years) and bid away via AE from NYC in a few months or less. Look 1 post up from yours…

“Better equipment” is subjective. First year pay is the same, and 2nd year isn’t a large difference between the fleets.

Agreed, but if the goal is to get to ATL, why spend one day commuting if you don’t have to, even with positive space?
Versus the possibility of having to commute for 7 months before you *might* be able to transfer?
What would help with the advice would be the “why?”. Do you live in ATL now? Is your commute easier to there? Etc.
(Commuting is a choice, living in base is a choice, BWYWWWYB, etc.)

If I lived there it would have been a no brainer, but NYC is an easy commute as well, just not drivable. Good points all around though and I definitely appreciate the counsel from all. Wish there was access to more information before selecting equipment you’re initially locked into for two years…
