it seems like the strategy is to reduce downside risk to regionals collapsing and building out a more robust domestic network with some additional international growth in specific markets. My guess at your question would roughly be pre-COVID mainline seniority list + 50-60% of the total number of regional pilots that specifically supported Delta connection operation. Add up all the pilots from endeavor, the Delta portion of Skywest, on and on, take half of it, and add it to the pre-COVID list. Add in 500 for near term retirements. This is all according to my friend Glenlivet anyway. Probably can’t trust him though, he’s only 12 years old.

United has said they want 21,000 pilots and their CEO has publicly said the recent massive airframe order was to snuff out competition from getting them, as well as pilots. This hiring frenzy has a little bit of keeping up with the Jones' built in I bet.
