We still have a ton of flying in LAX. Transcon/DTW/ATL on domestic side. 1 HNL (becoming 2 again, that usually then goes to out of base HNL flying SLC/MSP)
latin America is still strong to GUA/SAL/SJO. Sometimes SAL decreases but GUA/SJO can’t be flown by our other airplanes yet they’ve said.

Tahiti resumes out of LAX in Oct to late May again. They told us base will grow/take over the SEA stuff when they close the base, most notably the charter flying. LAX ER they said will likely remain same size or grow a little until late 2025’s. That’s when charter contract is up with NBA. Whether it’s renewed or not is unknown. So feel comfortable to head out west. Our trips are pretty good, lot of us senior people swap and drop. So even junior guys get good trips.

we’ve also seen a massive uptick in Europe trips through JFK built as 5 days. That’s all I’ve been doing last 2 months.
This is also great information! THANK YOU!!
Here's another newbie question though: does one get seat locked for a period of time? Just trying to analyze how it would play out once the 7ER type gets phased out. Not that I know when that would happen exactly though... I appreciate it!

Yes, NH’s have a 2 year “category freeze” (aka seat lock) unless…

If you can’t hold your original equipment in a base you want to be, you can bid off after only a year to get to that base. When you convert is another matter entirely, and it could approach 2 years in the most extreme case anyway. There is a shorter conversion window in the new contract for most bids, however.

That said, even if the 7ER went away soon (which it won’t), getting “displaced” off a closing category comes without a seat lock.

I know Fangs knows this, but for those lurking…only an MD comes without a seat lock.

On that note of the ER going away, I've been told that the same guys working on retrofitting the A320 screens are also working to upgrade the ER's Wx radar and integrate a speed tape on the attitude indicator display, so it seems like the current* plan is to keep then around for a little while

*Obviously could change tomorrow

networking said the ER is around 2030-2032 retirement right now. Anyone bidding ER right now should have ease of mind. Something bad would have to happen making your bid irrelevant anyways for that to change

There is a good chance you will be able to successfully bid via an AE on the yet-to-be-officially-announced June bid back to LA on the 7ER, but there is no guarantee there will be a slot, or that it would get down to your seniority (ALWAYS have a bid in regardless of what is published). One thing possibly helping your case is the closing/further displacement of the SEA 7ER base soon. Some of that flying will likely flow down to the LAX base which will require a small number of additional pilots. It really depends on how much importance you put on flying the 7ER vs. being in LA. If you are willing to commute for a time, go for the 7ER. But if you already live in LA and would have a long or double-leg commute to ATL or NYC, that might favor taking the 'sure thing'. Good luck, and welcome to Delta!
Hi, all I am new here. Would anyone know what kind of flying (I.e. city pairs, schedules) the a320 family out of LAX does? Thanks y’all for any info. I’ll be in an upcoming class.

Apologies. I’m not trying to be vague, just didn’t know much about it yet. Just trying to get an idea whether they fly a lot of legs per day and which routes are common perhaps. And if much red eye flying, etc… any info helps me out. TIA

Yea, one month it does Tokyo, the next month it does Paris, right?

The LAX320 fleet starts off with a lot of red eyes to the east coast, followed by a day layover, then fly that night and continue on a 3, 4, or 5 day trip. A lot of Hawaii that’ll either start or end a trip typically. The senior trips are three days with one leg to Hawaii, 24 hour layover, red eye back. Once you get out to the east, the trips will look just like MSP, DTW, ATL, NYC. A lot of east coast turns. Florida is big out of NYC. 2-3 leg days mostly.

Congrats and welcome!!

Plan on red eyes to the east to start a trip, or Hawaii red eye to end the trip. Or before crew planning got new software that says west coast pilots don’t get fatigued on red eyes LAX had zero red eyes. So plan on wide fluctuations of trip building over the years.

There is no such thing as city pairs at DAL, we are too big an operation for those.
