For guys that really like to teach being a sim instructor is for you. Schedule flexibility through sim swaps and much better pay. LCA shouldn't have to teach, it's more of a checking trip to make sure you were taught properly in the simulator training.

Disagree
1) most people don't live in ATL so not a better deal for most.
2) sim doesn't teach you nearly everything, my LCAs filled in lots of blanks and were great teachers.

I have always had excellent excellent LCPs, who always take a text every years after the fact to answer a question. I’m grateful for those who put their time into it.

Same goes for sim, of course. Never walked into an event dreading it. Great folks all around.

Can't agree with you there. Both teach, just at different levels. Just like there are different 'levels' of teaching in the military (UPT T-37/T6, T-38, AT-38, FTU, WIC), I for one would MUCH rather teach on the line than in a box here. That said, I'm told that of all the damage done on the line, the majority of the time there is an LCA on board (as in, a student jacks it up). So it's not without risk.

Plus, as raisins said, not everyone lives in PTC. To each their own though.

Question. My interview is coming up and I live in ATL and sim instructor seems like a great gig if you live in ATL (which I do). Are sim instructors different from line pilots or do they take line pilots and put them in instructor positions? If so, is it 2 years on line to be eligible? Thanks.

regional pilot LCAs is a much more challenging job as most of your students have never flown a jet. And I’m only aware of higher LCA override at the AA WOs, because they were on the verge of shutting down due to attrition.

either way a 30% override over our highest paying plane (currently $125/hr) is hardly getting the short end of the stick IMO

Once you are a line pilot you can apply to be a sim instructor. I think they require 500 or 1000 hours at Delta first - someone more knowledgeable can chime in on that.

I like to teach, and sim instructor is one of the last things on the planet I would want to do…

your last statement shows you have no idea about the LCP job.
