If I were you I would bid the 765!

Just don’t expect ATL 765 soon, the category is getting more senior as they’ve pushed pilots to NYC for that fleet. My guess is the 765 will be a mostly NYC fleet and ATL sees more 330 to offset the payload optimization. Sounds like the 765 to ATL can be limited leaving europe sometimes.

I'd pick the 765 if you have the choice. The commute to JFK from Florida is pretty good between our flights and JetBlue. Almost all the 765 flying is commutable, and while you won't move up as fast as the ER, you'll have great flying while you're doing progressing slowly.

Unsolicited advice follows from a LCP that has done OEs for over 20 years: At some point, pleeeeease go fly domestic. If you are a long time international FO, your flying skills WILL deteriorate to the point that frankly... you suck as a pilot. I know you don't believe that, but I have seen the results of that over and over. When you upgrade after a long time in the right seat, your decision making skills have atrophied right along with those flying skills. If you choose the 765, go into it knowing that what I am speaking is the truth. If you go to the ER, you will have to opportunity to go fly both international to some really good destinations (eventually) and get lots of reps on the 757 (which is a really fun airplane to fly.)

tifwiw.... you have a nice quandry

Truth but the 7ER has the same issue if you are flying international. In 5 years I landed once in Europe after TOE. Captain takes the first (international) leg and you get rochambeau for the JFK/ATL landing.

Does anyone know what the training situation looks like for the 220? How long after indoc should I expect to start? From looking through the forum it looks like training takes about 29 days?

Thanks

And now add to that NHs on the 350 (soon to become the junior WB in that pay band) and 330. Agree with your domestic recommendation and I would add that the key to feeling somewhat comfortable in an Airbus is repetition, especially if one has never flown FiFi...and even more so on the 350 and I suspect it will be a challenge for them to get those reps as a NH on the 330/350.

Been through CQ once with someone who bragged how little he had flown. Cool achievement but he really didn't need to say anything. One of those "tell me you haven't flown without telling me you haven't flown" situations. He got to repeat day 1 of CQ and I didnt know that was even possible. 🤣

Absolutely. But at least on the ER you have the opportunity to go fly some domestic. I was on the 7ER when we had separate domestic/international categories. Big bad ass international pilot. Then the categories got combined and I had to go fly that POS 757 OMG a DOMESTIC airplane!!! (which I actually loved flying). Because of just what you said, my skills were atrocious. Fortunately I had backslid to the right seat after the closure of DEX so my decision making skills were still pretty tight when I upgraded again, but the slowdown was apparent even to me.

Any NH that flies with me on the 350 will get this same speech/recommendation. If you sit in the right seat of that thing long enough, you will not be a good captain.
