SEA 737 has been given out an Indoc recently.

How long is the new hire course? I heard two weeks, wanted to verify.

I was under the impression after September it was one per week?

But IMO either of those two fleets would be the way to go.
Could a noobie get LAX immediately? Would the 73 be it or are there other options too? Asking for a friend:-)

If you are talking about Fleet Common training, aka “Indoc”, it is two weeks. Or more specifically, 9 business days.

Fleet specific training (type rating) sims starts NET 1 week later to allow for academic study, and is 4 weeks long. Any break in training over 48 hours gets a company business (paid) ticket home. You have to have 2 days in any rolling 7 days off. That almost always comes as a 5-day “week”, but that’s not guaranteed.

It has happened, but is not typical. Possible LAX NH categories are 7ER (757/767 ‘classic’ - no current vacancies), 737, and 320. Someone posted the possible vacancies from which they may pull in the DL Hiring:New Process thread

Your best bet is to AE to LAX in the 73 or 320. Otherwise, you will have to wait a year to get to LAX if you get the 717 or 220, as they are not in LAX.

That would be it. Is the sim training always 4 weeks? I’m trying to provide my wife with some idea of what our future few months hold.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, almost all in Atlanta, but some fleets will occasionally have one or more of the weeks off-site (MIA and LAS have been past locations, but you don’t get a vote.)

Not sure what the post-Covid world will look like, but before Covid, the wait between the 2-week indoc and the 4-weeks of sims was between 1-2 weeks. The more senior you were in the class, the closer to the 1-week wait you had. (In theory, the senior pilot will get off new hire pay a little earlier, if only by a couple of days).

I’ve been through 3 long-courses at DL - every time they start your week in the later sim times, and gradually start each day earlier as the week goes on. It makes for a little longer “weekend” if you want to go home. (For example, you might finish at 1100 on “Friday”, but the next event starts at 1500 on “Monday”) But that also makes for a very busy week with less time to prepare for the next sim than you might like.

Also, the new-hire dinner is (was?) usually the Evening of the first day of the second week. It’s a very classy catered event in the flight museum, under the wing of the 767, and the company will fly your spouse in for free, and can stay in your hotel (obviously). I highly recommended bringing your spouse - you’ll regret it if you don’t.

One final note, once you have your type rating ride (called 44X), you will probably start OE within a couple of days (Covid-related backlogs have pretty well gotten back to normal). Training Planning “owns” you until you are OE complete in your base, which will probably be 2 3- or 4-day trips, maybe separated by only a couple of days. It can be a long slog for the family…
