They will not approve outside flying for any pay until you finish OE. In our class one of the coordinators made that perfectly clear. After OE I know one guy that was cleared to fly floats for pay, but another in the same class that was denied 91 private jet flying with his previous employer. YMMV

Not until during indoc. It's somewhere towards the end of week one I think. Can't remember exactly. But you're here before it find out

I believe I'm close to getting a class date. Anyone currently in class hear how they handle starting around Thanksgiving or Xmas? Skipping weeks, moving starts, or BAU? Thanks

It varies a little bit, and they have more options with Christmas and New Year’s falling on a weekend this year. Generally they won’t have a class the last week or two of December, but they could very well still keep a class starting every Tuesday and just give the weekend holidays off.

New Years was over a weekend last year and they had a class. No idea about Christmas

Default SLC Base

Hello, I received a CJO on 8/26 and am estimating to get a class date by January from the time lines I’ve been seeing.
My goal is to be SLC based. I know everything is subject to change but has SLC been offered during the latest indoc classes? If not, what would be the best strategy to bid so I could possibly transfer there. I know they have 320, 737, and 220 bases there.

There has been a lot of up and down with SLC in the drops over the last 6 months. I believe 73 is most understaffed currently. But it looked like I had a snowballs chance in hell of getting 220SLC on the last AE and it worked out (and I wasn’t the lowest seniority number to get it either). I learned there’s only partial data at best to make these types of decisions because nobody knows how others will bid on AEs, including the company. I guess all that to say bid the airplane you want between those three if there aren’t any SLC options in your drop, and hopefully you’ll get it on the following AE.

I am almost 100% certain they will not allow contract flying before you are done with OE

Can confirm. I have a 7 week break between indoc and sims (73N) and I asked the CPO if I could do some contracting on the side for my previous employer charter company. Was told it is in competition with Delta’s Wheels Up subsidiary and thus was not allowed.

Other types of “moonlighting” may be allowed if they’re not in competition with DL. The CPO can provide a form you can fill out to request authorization.
