At least for me, the idea of never having a bunk on the 765 is a pretty big turn off.

Yeah heard that one too. 330 is a growing fleet. Think we get 7 or so next year? Have to check the 10K. Plus the 330 will have senior guys (sometimes) going off it to 350. 765 doesn’t have 777 to entice folks off. 330 is the future no doubt.

The 765 (at least from ATL) advantages were:

No flights more than 9hr

No Africa

Mostly vacation destinations, not just AMS, CDG, LHR all month

No domestic to cover for, so if you did bid reserve in 4 day blocks, basically unusable by day 2.

Will admit to bunk envy though....

Dakar sucks, but I found Accra to be a nice layover. Nice pool, arrive in time for beers and swim. Good food. Good breakfast. Nice hotel. I’m sure Europe is better obviously but I could imagine that’s a nice easy trip to do to relax. Lagos I’ve not heard anything good. Lol

765 is more limited now with the 330 around. Lots of LHR and 6 days. 330 variety is nice.

Agreed. I like ACC a lot. Great overnight but DSS is a hard pass.

Default base/equipment

OK, let me ask an unpatriotic question - something I never would have thought of before the talent shortage got so deep:

If you don't want a base/equipment choice from what's available when you finish indoc, can you sit on the sidelines for a subsequent drop?

Sure, on the streets when they subsequently rescind your CJO.

No. You get your drop the week prior to indoc, and will know your base and aircraft assignment prior to showing up on day 1. If you don't like what you got, your options are to either take it and deal with the suck for a while or no-show indoc and forfeit any future employment at Delta. Thousands and thousands of pilots before you in the entirety of the history of the air line did not get a desirable choice as a new hire. It's just one of the potential downsides to this career.
