Having said all that, the company can, at it's own discretion, give a new award to a seat-locked pilot. It's not super common, and really dependent on where the company is hurting the most staffing-wise, but even if you are under a seat lock you can submit a bid for whatever you want and cross your fingers that the company awards it. A seat lock does not prevent you from bidding, it just means the company doesn't have to honor your bid.

I’ve been scouring the threads but haven’t found an answer. I recently received a CJO at UAL and DL and I’m trying to weight my options. I live in NE PA and plan on commuting to either airline. Newark is by far easier to commute. NYC co domiciles with JFK, LGA, EWR. Is it possible to hold a line just out of EWR? Other than 73n and 220, what other airframes operate out of EWR? TIA

However, it’s seniority dependent AND marketing dependent. DL changes month to month how much EWR flying on each airframe. Six months ago I was told the 73N was the plane for EWR and the 320 doesn’t do much. Looking at the pairings it doesn’t seem that way anymore.
If you’re in NE PA (I’m also in PA, but near PHL) than UAL is a clear winner. EWR is a huge AND junior base, with all airframes. And UAL hasn’t hired nearly as many pilots as DL in the last 10 years, and they have a much more robust widebody fleet (great except when international goes to zero/COVID).

You will be seat locked for 2 years after your initial category assignment. If you were assigned to DTW 717, you wouldn’t be able to transfer to NYC, since that aircraft is only in DTW and ATL.
But since NYC is the most junior base, you’ll likely have no issue getting it. In the 9/13 class 5 of the bottom 10 got either NYC 73N or NYC 320.
