Where was the vacancy to DTW350B? Somehow people time and time again listen to the rumors of sim instructors. As far as I’m concerned I have yet to find anything in contract that allows a new hire to bid onto a backfill position….
You have to find language forbidding it, not the other way around. Backfill positions are vacancies in categories and if no one bids them they are available. Just compare previous AEs with class drops and you'll see it happens every single time.

True, however, if the company chooses not to backfill or award positions (where bids existed to fill those) because of training pipeline constraints at the time, those “open” positions cannot be offered to new hires without an additional AE to first give the opportunity to award those positions to other pilots.

Latest update I've seen, from a few Facebook posts, is 22 June CJO that received 11 October class. I'm guessing this means the 18 October class drop should be coming shortly for individuals that received CJOs in the few following days. Onboarding lady told me via phone the other day that they're currently sitting at about 16 weeks from CJO to class start.

The company is getting desperate to convince newhires that we have as much of it as AAL and UAL.

That's why you always bid what you want, even if there isn't an opening. Look at the size of the actual AEs vs what is posted. It was only a matter of time before the company explored this angle.

Edit: just confirming what you said.

agreed. I wouldn’t be opposed to the company listing what it claims are vacancies after an AE before giving them to new hires…that way everyone could look at it and say “hey wait a minute, I bid for that but wasn’t awarded it.”

Really? So our most senior widebody FO seat can suddenly go to a new hire because company decided to not backfill it? Because we all know there was bidders for SEA330 and LAX350 but based on what you’re saying it can go to a new hire and those who lost out on the AE. Well tough ****. Rules get made up after the game, I guess…
