Does anyone have an educated guess at the frequency that this fleet converts LC to SC? Trying to make a decision between winging it with hotels or starting my crashpad search early.

I only ended up being on reserve for one month as a new hire NYC320B earlier this year. Sat 1 SC on my very first LC day, by the time I commuted up I already had a trip assigned the next day.

If you stay in NYC you should be able to hold a line very soon if not right out of the gate.

I spent most of my time at the Aloft @ LGA but I was able to sit LC from home.

I would say to expect 0-3 shorts calls a month, with 2 being the most common.

I would usually request for an 8am start time so you can commute in and out the same day with no problem

After I have time to compare the NYC commute vs ATL I'll make a call for the Aug AE. About 6 more flights per day to ATL out of TPA, but I know ATL will be more reserve for sure. I appreciate your response!

The 8am start strategy seems solid. And I can handle a few a month, but much more than that and a crashpad becomes more financially (but maybe not logistically) viable. Thanks!

Short Call:

SC is a 9 hour window. Usually 2-3 per month at the most. You can call scheds and tell them you’ll be non-contactable for the first two hours, as long as you’re ready for immediate tasking after those two hours. Then, in the last two hours, if it’s quiet you can call and get released early. I never got a trip on shortcall in NYC in 6 months there.

320 NYC tends to not have any commutable trips lately. A crashpad is kinda needed unless you like spending on hotels or sleeping in chairs.

I can definitely agree with this. 300 bucks a month and it’s huge peace of mind knowing you always have somewhere you can go.

Well, I try to make life easy so I'll head on over to the stickied NYC post and get to taking notes. Thanks for the responses.

Usually first day of reserve in each block is short call. That’s been my experience. And you’ll almost 100% get put on a trip out of it. And on everyday of LC as well. NYC 320 has terrible reserve coverage so they will use you. I would try to yellow slip multiple day trips so you don’t have to find a place to sleep out of pocket.

Aloft LGA has a crew rate if you call the front desk, laundry on 3rd floor ($6 in quarters), and free shuttle or is walkable. You’ll also walk passed a convenient food truck. The main problem is, NYC has been a sh*t show the past several weeks so hotels book up quickly. For me, crash pad seems awful so I just ate the hotel cost knowing it was a short term problem (reserve). With the rate people convert out of NY and new hires backfill, you’ll have a line in no time. Plus there’s some much flying there, company doesn’t really have the luxury of reserves meaning faster to a line and not many nights in NYC. If the Aloft is full, there’s a Marriott next door with a crew rate but it’s a bit more expensive. Or you might just need to get a hotel in Manhattan during IROPS when we leave thousands of customers stranded in NYC. With the northeast parking pass (NEPP), you’ll get reimbursed up to $250 for any transport to Newark or LGA rotations. So if you end up in Manhattan and need a $50 Uber to LGA for a trip, you can get that covered.

I just pickup a 1 or 2 day green slip a month to cover all my NYC expenses because I chose to do hotels instead of crash pad. That being said, it is kind of a pain when hotels are full and you’re trying to figure out where you’re staying at 11pm.

From what I'm reading: NYC765B expect to sit reserve for years; Commute is ~1hr on a route with 30+ flights daily. What would QOL really be like if you managed to snag this seat and wanted to get right into overseas? Would the commute to reserve be feasible/worth it?
