Not being in a new hire drop doesn't really mean it's senior or not. There could be 100 positions available and the company isn't offering any of them to new hires yet due to their priorities. I'm not sure how it works now, but they used to only offer as many positions as were in each class and determined what those would be. If they offer a larger pool now, it could also be that no one is asking for it.

An important thing if the base you want isn't in a drop is to try to get the aircraft that gets you there quickest. If your goal is to get there before anything else. I believe a few also used the new A320 category in SEA to jump types for that reason as well.

LAX historically is not common, at all. Covid changes notwithstanding.

So other than maybe the sporadic SEA here and there, one shouldn’t expect much chance for a west coast base? How long roughly to hold something in LAX these days?

you can hold LAX on first AE you are available to bud, domestic fleets + 7ER. While it doesn’t go to new hires all the time, it’s not a senior base.

LAX has historically been 2nd most junior base behind NYC.

HI all, newbie here. Just wondering how the trips are with A220 in NYC. (avg. how many legs do you fly a day?)
are there a lot of redeyes? any 1-2 day trips? and how often does the trip starts in EWR, compared to LGA/JFK? can you make some money picking up some open time?

thank you in advance!

The longer trips (3+ days) are usually 1-2 legs/day. The shorter trips are 3 legs with a lot of NYC-ORD and an occasional BNA, MSY, JAX, RSW or SRQ turn.

I’m not sure of the exact mix but there’s probably 10-15% out of EWR about 20-30%ish out of JFK and the rest LGA. Totally anecdotal but I tend to bid for JFK starts and see a bit of a hit on trip quality sometimes.

I think the only redeye we do at the moment is SEA-CVG and only SEA pilots have been doing it recently.

If you’re a Texas commuter it’s the closest thing to living in base at Delta. Lots of long overnights at the big 4 with many trips having back to back overnights at the same station. There’s also open time opportunities with DH only days in and out of DFW, IAH, AUS and SAT but they seem to usually be covered with SLC crews.

Open time is a little tough at the moment as we are the best staffed aircraft/seat right now (73N/320 are totally opposite). That could always change but it has been the case since December.

…posted from today’s MEC news email. They all look pretty happy in the accompanying photo too, which is weird since not one of them got 7ER.

I think these are 2 different drops, as they have different sets of awarded categories. The one at the top is from June 7 - still no breakdown of how many - and the next one is from May 31. I think the MEC email lags the actual class start date.

All that said, does anyone have the numbers from the June 7 drop?

Not the case over the past few years. LAX is pretty stagnant, even shrinking. Hopefully that changes as the new gates open up.
