Honestly it has nothing to do with ALPA, except for maybe that you can blame them not fixing it in past contracts. They have fixed 2 pretty big things already, with the hopes of more in this next contract to make us competitive to someone who just wants an airline. If you live in someone else’s base, there’s nothing to put in there that’ll fix that pull.

There’s not really a clean way to fix the skipped paycheck issue. If you either change training pay to be paid in arrears like regular pay or start paying regular line pay from day 1 all you’re doing is moving the missed paycheck to the very start of employment. Depending on when a person starts they could go up to 3 weeks or more after their first day of indoc before getting their first full paycheck. That wouldn’t be terrible if the person’s previous employer also paid in arrears and they were still getting their last check(s) from their old job.

True, but putting everyone on normal pay from day 1 would fix the “skipped” check. And there’s not much to do about the arrears pay if you start day 1, except most jobs you don’t get your paycheck until you been there for a few.

It seems like this could be resolved in a number of ways. The first that come to mind are:

1. You could continue to pay training pay during the transition period and deduct a prorated amount over the next X pay periods (e.g. $5K/24 deduction for 12 months)
2. You could advance pay reserve min guarantee as a negative credit to banked hours

I’m still new to this, but it seems like an archaic practice this day in age

American pays flight pay at ALV for your base beginning day 1. Pilots get an "advance" to cover the first pay period. What a concept!

So did they stop giving you your seniority date (pay raise date) something like 3ish months after you started indoc?

"Training pay" needs to go. It needs to be full line pay from day one.

At our salary and career earnings there shouldn't be any angst over a couple week period about when one paycheck hits the bank one time in a career.

Concessionary "training pay" is what needs to be addressed.

They also don’t pay into your 401K for the first year.

No I'm pretty sure they still get their annual raise and finish probation a year from their checkride. Which is still better than $5000 a month and then a month without a paycheck during the transition to 1st year pay.

Well that's kind of a bummer. That's a pretty big hit.
