Sounds like I'm getting my numbers mixed up here. I was 14.6 & not 15.6. Thanks gentleman. When I typed it out I was thinking damn, 3500 people since I was hired. Should have been my red flag, lol. Deleted for sake of my embarrassment lol

Help me understand these numbers. Let’s say there’s 20 pilots in a class will there only be 20 options to chose from or will there be left over assignments after all pilots have been awarded.

Edit: also note that these drops with positions across multiple bases are not the norm. Historically the majority of each class has been offered NYC with only a handful (or zero) positions outside NYC. The company is limited in what they can offer new hires to only the unbid positions from the most recent AE (bid). The company was originally going to run an AE in January but delayed that due to omicron so they had already used up most of their available NYC spots and thus have had to spread the love recently. We have an AE open right now and once that is awarded in a week or two you will in all likelihood see a return to NYC-heavy class drops again since all the new hires over the past several months who were forced into NYC will be able to bid out, leaving a huge hole that needs to be filled by future new hires.

The company will offer various positions (base + aircraft) but not attach a specific number of spots to them. Then the class gets that list and ranks all their choices. The company then goes and tries to match the wants of the class with the needs and training capacity of the company. Obviously if everyone puts ATL 320 as their top choice then most people will not get their top choice. Generally it sounds like most people are not getting worse than their 3rd or 4th choice.

Do you think that the Feb. 22nd class will be the last class that might have SEA or any west coast base in the new hire drops or will the AE bid awards be awarded by then and it will be back to NYC heavy?

New Hire Class Drops
The 15 Feb class will *probably* be the last class with west coast drops for awhile (outside of a couple here and there). The AE results will likely be posted before the 22nd class starts. Anticipate the classes 22 Feb on to be extremely NYC heavy.

I’ve been reading through this forum and found little bits and pieces of the answer but still pretty confused on the process of getting to the base you want if not initially awarded it after training.
Say I get awarded A320 NYC out of indoc but I want SLC. (Any plane but prefer A320) How does the process work for getting back to SLC. Is it easier to switch planes or stay in the same plane or does it not matter? Meaning Is it easier to bid the A320 and transfer to SLC on the A320 or does it not matter say I was a NYC 7ER Pilot it would it take just as long waiting for the next AE (minus going through training again) What is a realistic time frame of me having to commute before I can be awarded a different base?

As a 7ER pilot commuting from SLC, bid 320/73N/220 and just wait to bid to SLC on an AE. It won't be a long wait and certainly you will not get to SLC any faster bidding something not in SLC (717/7ER) and trying to use the 1 year seat lock release rule. You'll get to slc even later with a longer seat lock on airplane #2 and be gone longer with all the training. Keep it simple. Don't over think it.
