How so? If that money we spent on wars the past two decades were put in a Social Security lockbox they could stop taxing us for social security benefits for 100 years. Seems relevant to the topic and relevant to the previous discussion saying he wanted private SS accounts where people could invest their own money. Instead of letting us invest our own money he just borrowed our money and sent our country into perpetual war forever.

Do you know any large well functioning societies that operate well WITH taxes? America became largely what it is with effectively a 0% tax rate. I answered your question, answer mine. Do you enjoy working 3-4 months every year to pay your local/county/state/federal tax bill?
The original contention was that taxes are theft. Maybe they are, but every model of civilization I know of have has had some system of taxation. I feel like I get a pretty good deal myself, but I know that’s not as easy as complaining about all the things one doesn’t enjoy.
If you’ve got an economic vision of how society functions with no taxes, I’m all ears. If you’ve got an example of your theory functioning in the real world - even better! Naturally, I’m curious how defense, law enforcement, the courts, roads, bridges, space exploration, National parks, wildlife preservation, schools, courts, elections, and medical residences all get funded. Are we gonna pass the hat and see who feels like throwing in a few bucks to defend our shores when China swings by? Maybe a recurring bake sale to pay the salaries of local police and fire?

Enjoy it? I dunno. I enjoy my life, and when I look at how hard I work and the fruits of my labor (after taxes) I’m rather content. Haven’t found a country I’d rather live in and I’ve been to a few. I don’t enjoy doing laundry, going to the dentist, colonoscopies or teacher parent conferences. I happen to think all those things are necessary, though, since I’m not seven.

I don't think it is so much the 'necessity' of taxation, but the unfair application thereof. As it stands now, it punishes success. If we had a flat tax that was equally applied to all citizens, THAT would be fair. And I would be all for that under two conditions: first is that the percentage is spelled out in a constitutional amendment, and that it covers ALL income in every form with NO deductions. Period. It could be done on a post card. And also what should be added to that would be the requirement that unless you actually pay into the system, you do not get to vote. But that is complete fantasy. None of the politicos in DC are interested in anything other than power, and as long as they can bend you and me over a barrel, they can maintain that regardless of what is 'fair'.

it doesn’t penalize poverty, all the govt as to do is give them more welfare.
the people who are penalized in the current system are middle class to upper middle class.
case in point - you have 4 to 5 million dollars…I’ll show you how you pay ZERO federal tax on your airline salary. Rich people don’t pay taxes.

well…
Move to a touristy local….use that 4-5 million as a down payment on a vacation rental. Make your wife a “full time real estate professional” (google IRS definition). The paper loss on depreciation alone is a write off on your salary. 1031 exchange that property as required.
as easy math…a 2.75M property is a 100K per year depreciation over the IRS 27.5 year depreciation…and can go against your salary. Up the value as required to avoid federal tax all together.
What you’ll probably come to mathematically, once you reach these levels…is why even deal with DL on a full time basis at all.
