It would seem to be pretty simple math, since benefits are already being paid. They only have to justify the training costs which is probably the biggest hold up to recalls. It would only take 21 hours of GS flying spread through a month to make the pay difference to bring someone back from the 30 hour UNA to a 72 hour reserve line. I don’t know how much WS would be factored in unless they are continually being covered day prior.

I really don’t think anyone knows. With different countries and states all continually changing their Covid restrictions who can forecast future flying demand. Hopefully the vaccination efforts will pay off and we will be looking back at this in 12 months.

Agreed..our operation for non holidays, day to day covid world is about right in regards to demand/ cash conservation. The issue we are seeing this week and likely into Christmas is that we are unable to take advantage of a bump in demand for holiday travel.

Network dumping trips into open time after the bid package closes out hoping that they could get covered is not working. Hopefully around Christmas they preemptively cancel early enough to prevent widespread disruption. Embarrassing that our reputation for reliability is taking such a hit, but we have seen this slow motion train wreck forming this fall.

Christmas will be busier than Thanksgiving IMHO. Delta has missed catching the wave, and I am all about the middle seat. What management does from now we shall see. The populace is getting ready to travel and see Grandma.

I agree it will be busier. We are seeing the failure of multiple AE's , UNA mess , staffing etc. rearing its ugly head.

I know we have all beat the dead horse, but SIL's from the start could have really prevented the mess we are dealing with today. I'm off for Christmas, luckily away from another train wreck.

Delta management went with fear vice business to try and gain from the pilot group, standard SOP unfortunately. They will reap they have sown. I hope they haven’t miscalculated so far as to permanently damage the brand and in turn our livelihoods.

A couple articles I read tried to infer that it was some sort of pilot action because of concessions given. I know, they have no idea what they are talking about, however I hope the union or even better management sets that straight.

yeah, yeah, I know the answer. Just trying to understand the logic
What's the "logic" of some of the fake locals and their 3-5 hour drives being considered "at rest" as they dodge potholes and draft semis?

While you said you know the answer (which is that it does not count as report/duty, for extremely obvious reasons) the reason it doesn't (which is why you're asking I think) is that the company isn't forcing you to take that flight, or any flight. There is no underlying assuption that you even have to commute in the first place. Its not built into your schedule. Its 100% your option. You can still do 2 flights. You can do 5 flights. You can drive. You can have a second home there and stay as long as you want.

If the company assigns it to you and expects you to be on it, then we can talk "duty day" and all that. As for the recurrent travel day, that's completely different because our contract provides for that specific travel day and we get paid for it, unlike PS commuting, which is merely a change in one's non rev priority. Apples and Miatas.

So great job guys answering the "not really the real question"

My real question was...since we can now book positive space to work with no backup, what is your pay status if they don't get you there. I guess the case can be made that since they aren't paying you for the commute, it is dropped, no harm, no foul, no pay. Seems reasonable. However, some times we get things that aren't logical but good deals(the previous DH drinking policy) and sometimes bad( deviate DH at end of rotation and lose perdiem)(lack of commuter parking at non Delta bases)
When it comes to pay matters, I like to be able to point to something in an LOA or the PWA.

Anybody? Maybe I missed it( a possibility)
