1.1M+ TSA Numbers by Independence Day
#671
We have to quit comparing everything to last year. Last year was record breaking on all accounts. Delta was still making billions in 2015 when traffic was about 2/3 of 2019. If it takes us 3 to 4 years to get back to 2019 numbers and 6 billion in profit thats not bad at all.
I agree completely, but the data isn’t readily available unfortunately. I was using the comparison to last year because that’s what the TSA posts every day. Whether it’s 40% of 2019 or a higher percentage of earlier years, the numbers are what they are, and they aren’t sustainable long-term. I agree that they don’t need to return to 2019 levels for the industry to remain viable.

We touched SEA, LAX, SLC, ATL, and our NYC JFK base. With the exception of JFK, the departure and arrival boards were full. First time I have seen that out in the system in a long while. This was every day of the trip. It's not back to 2019 levels, but certainly better than it was 6 months ago. Just my observation.

Agreed, a bump in holiday flying doesn't indicate anything. That said, I'd be surprised if we don't continue a positive trend into the new year. Slow and steady improvement until we hit a tipping point with vaccinations, then a big spike. August maybe?
