1.1M+ TSA Numbers by Independence Day
#361
Past two week COVID numbers are flat or decreasing in most states. I’m going out on a limb and guessing there’s a decent chance we hit 1M TSA passengers on Labor Day weekend, and barring another major surge in cases are at 50-60% of 2019 for the holidays.

If summer is leisure, and business has dried up, then you have "leisure" representing most of the TSA numbers, or 30%. Say 20% leisure, 10% business travel for May thru August, and we are at 30% of TSA numbers.
If leisure goes to 10% (drops in half) after the summer, and business doubles (to 20%), you are still at 30%.
We will not know the answer until we clear September and October. October is reportedly the heaviest "business travel" month of the year.
We will know by then how much business travel has dried up.

I ask- how?

Labor day weekend (is the last weekend of summer) and the holiday season are heavy leisure travel times. I’m not talking about post Labor Day - pre Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is 3 months away. There is going to be a crap ton of pent up demand to visit family. If the COVID numbers don’t get out of control, everyone is going to want to see their families again.

My family has cancelled our large Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings this year. I don’t know a bunch of 60-70+ year olds clamoring to crowd into a house together and eat food and be merry. I don’t think holiday travel will be what you think it will be this year.

Because there was a spike in cases resulting in an increase in restrictions.
