My brother is a partner in a big East Coast law firm. Makes about 3x what a widebody captain does. Pulled out his laptop in line at Disneyland to work during his one yearly vacation. That’s his life, every day. He is never off. I wouldn’t trade with him in a hundred years. But to each his own.

In my opinion, flying as a career gets better over time because the pay-to-work ratio becomes pretty reasonable. In a lot of professions, it stays pretty flat or maybe even gets progressively worse.

Shortly after Top Gun came out, some of the A-6 guys were wearing patches that said "fighter pilots make movies, attack pilots make history"
Then after Flight of the Intruder came out, some of the fighter guys had patches that said "fighter pilots make movies, attack pilots make really bad movies".
