The biggest impact on my net career income was starting on Plan B as a new hire. I'd like to pass along a sincere Thank You! to all of the pilots hired in the 80s and 90s who told me this would happen. They didn't know the specifics, but they educated me on the cyclical nature of the business and warned me to be ready.

Live within your means...always no matter what.
Save 10% of your income starting with your first job and increase that percentage with every raise thereafter...always no matter what.
Not really a Dave Ramsey fan but he does have a good saying. "If you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else"
Edit: Wish I had the sense of humor DB Cooper has, much better comment than mine.

Although I don’t hear about it too much lately. All I see is post-‘14 hires on the chopping block saying ‘hold the line’.

Hah! May as well say the most quotable movie in military and civilian aviation... Top Gun. Come on....we all know the lines....
Prophetic for the “Truckmasters” driving school quote though.
(I sometimes wonder why I left law school for this crazy career. Lord almighty).
