Look, it has always been this way because no one else is unionized. We negotiate profit sharing. The other employees get profit sharing. Our profit sharing formula changes. Theirs’ changes. Our formula almost changes. Theirs’ changes. Oops. Our formula is voted down and we keep the old one. After a year the other employees profit sharing formula snaps back to ours after they complain. It is lock step. Match the other employees’ benefits to the pilots so the other employees do not vote in a union.
Yes we are hurting. All airlines are hurting. But the dynamics and games played here are different because other airlines are unionized. Learn this now.

I’m pretty sure you’re right. Just thought it somewhat ironic that ours are taking a 25% hit today via hours reduction, and theirs are getting a new contract, raises, signing bonuses etc. Sort of goes back to the OPs original question.
And yes, as another person pointed out, I’m sure the tax payers will have a field day when they find out.

This was an agreed upon contract that mx is now voting on. Rumors are the company asked them to delay the signing bonus. This was a huge step, the summer ‘19 meltdown we had was because of the mechs grounding a huge amount of our jets. Read the details of the bailout bill, y’all about to be fully unionized.

For a little context. Back in 2001 Delta voted in a new contract. As we march inexorably towards bankruptcy we continued to get yearly pay raises even though the company was in dire straights. (UAL had been offered a contract of Delta plus 1 $ which they turned down then BAM1 911 hit....timining is a *****). Anyway 3 or so years later the pilots took a 16-18% voluntary pay cut to stave off bankruptcy. That "voluntary pay cut was in essence the pay bump we had been getting that other employees or other pilot groups weren't getting.
(Story is in essence correct , numbers may be slightly off).....also adds a little perspective to don't lower the bar prior to bankruptcy because then you'll be starting from a lower number. I agrree with that but, (in our case) that higher number was a little "skewed" and was the result of good timing
When bailouts came, the same ire was prevalent from tax payers to all the other employee groups at Delta.
