Go back a few pages. I think I mentioned "Better Angels," and "Sapiens." Also, "Guns, Germs, Steel," and "The Ascent of Money."
If you really want what is probably the all-time best mix of history and literature, nothing beats Gibbon's "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire." This can be a cathartic experience for some.

There have been quite a few. “The Last Kingdom”, and at the top of the page, someone mentioned “Eat, Pray, Love”. Not my cup of tea but it might be right up your alley. Why don’t you start there. Do you and Oooff ever have anything positive to add to any of these pages or do you just like to nag? Read the thread. You’ll find plenty of recommendations that don’t have any aviation or military topics. But that’s not what you’re looking for anyway, Amirite?
I've actually read most of the fiction recommendations from above.

Pretty much anything from Cormac McCarthy is a dark masterpiece. Pat Conroy tells some good southern stories. Classics you’ve probably missed from Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Faulkner. Tom Wolfe, Hunter S Thompson for some social commentary…

On a recent podcast Chuck Palahniuk mentioned his favorite book is “A Confederacy of Dunces.” A 1968 “tragicomedy.” Picked it up and enjoyed it.

What type of readings are you looking for? I listen to lots of random subject (lots of military stuff too lol), but here are some of the recents books I've listened too.
- The Accidental Superpower by Peter Zeihan - Talks about how the US became a Super Power and why we're likely to stay that way. I really enjoyed this book. It was written in 2014 and the dude basically called Putins invasion of Ukraine, both on timeline and reasoning.
- Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell - I don't necessarily agree with all of his conclusions, but a good listen for sure. I don't think he's written a book I haven't liked.
- Think Again by Adam Grant - He seems to want sway you one way or another on certain subjects, but overall it was a decent listen.
- Give and Take by Adam Grant - Talks about people who gets ahead in life...givers vs takers. I liked it, but it got a bit repetitive toward the end.
- Grit by Angela Duckworth - Still listening to this one. I'm starting to think that just listening to her TED talk would have sufficed lol.
