Patrick addressed it. He stated that BOS is falling in the grey area between cheaper to have as a layover and cheaper to have as a domicile, insinuating that future growth would be needed to turn it into a domicile. THEN, he said, “But IF that happens, it will not happen until Q3 or Q4, because we build the airline for the summer”
That all makes sense.

BOS is an amazinng domestic and international market and its good to see DL finally planting its flag there even if it did take 2 decades longer than it should have.

Its more than big enough to be a pilot domicile for at least a fleet or three. However all that saves us is a few DH's and relatively reasonable hotel rates. Like you mentioned, I think what will finally tip the scales is either additional growth (not sure how logistically possible that even is now but we'll see), fleet consolidation within the network, or a slowdown in movement that would blunt the initial hit of another no freeze new category.

I would be interested in what metric was referenced for "number one" as well. Flights? Seats? Revenue? Not that long ago I didn't think DL had the pgysical ability to overtake what JB was both generously gifted to them by us, and what they subsequently built through hard work, a great product, brilliant marketing and exceptional execution. Giving a ruthless competitor an entire terminal just to build another billion dollar terminal in an alley is a future History Channel "Blunders" episode. That DL has overcame that blunder to be #1...or even a strong #2...in that crown jewel market is impressive nonetheless.

I know pre-COVID we had more daily departures from BOS than JetBlue. Maybe we still do.

Default BOS updates

Any more talk if/when a BOS base could happen?

Starting to sound like it isn't happening anytime soon. Which means, of course, they'll probably open on the next AE. In true Delta Style....

Fall, if, and this is a BIG IF, training is caught up on the 320/737 (or at least we can see the end of the tunnel). Even if it's announced in October, I wouldn't expect it to start operations until Q1 2024.

Isn't that the same song they've been singing about a BOS base for years though? I've taken the stance, "i'll believe it when I see it." So until they actually have rotations that begin and end in BOS with pilots based there, I'm skeptical.

Free beer at the BOS base tomorrow. BOS as a pilot base, you guys are hilarious. Like Lucy and her football. It’s getting old, this hope and pining.

There's more than enough flying to support a base. At least 2 planes and likely 3 quite well, even including marketing's day by day and seasonal flux. Any new category would drive more training churn for a while though. Longer term it would help the forever unrealistic NYC basing models by offering relief into a base that would drive less churn.

Always a busy base when it was a domicile. 76's and 72's, actually flew 3 turns a day in the 300 BOS/YUL. All full.

Simply being full doesn't mean anything at all with respect to whether a flight makes sense
