I'm still waiting for an answer to HOW JamesBond thinks I'm advocating a DB plan? WTH?

First to establish where I am coming from, I am a super widebody Captain (junior in seat) and retire in 5 years.

Old Guys: Sure I would like a few extra retirement bucks but to be honest the amount we are talking about is not really going to move the needle. I personally would be happy with a good pay raise. But this group does need something to get them onboard. Maybe money or how about retirement medical benefits that everyone could eventually benefit from. But we (older guys) have to realize this contract is not going to make anyone's retirement whole and delaying things only hurts us.

Young Guys: I thought this was going to be the scope contract, delaying this contract till enough senior guys retire is cutting off your nose to spite your face. In a couple of years the scope ship will have sailed, the LATAM and other codeshares will be established, and planes will have been ordered. While you have many years to go the scope fight is right now. Your career losses from not getting scope now will dwarf any retirement money you are upset about.

This was also supposed to be the quality of life contract. There is no retro pay on QOL items.

And for everyone: How long do you think this goldilocks negotiating environment will last?

My point is we need to find our common ground or we are going to miss out on one of the best negotiating environment any of us will ever see with all this bickering.

Coming from a young guy who has read our Section 1 extensively, IMO there is no need to address Section 1. Our current language is very strong and only needs to altered if management has an offer drastically in our favor.

For the past several years management focused on growing mainline domestic and Maxed out Foreign flying allowed in our Scope. Now the majority of future international growth is heavily weighted Delta mainline. Reference 7 330NEOs coming this year plus all the LATAM 350s we are getting

Nonsense. It is readily apparent that Delta wants to farm out as much international flying as they can because the foreign carriers pay so much less. If we neglect this section, especially with zero penalty for company violations, we are extremely weak. It absolutely needs to be shored up, and until those planes are in Delta colors being flown by Delta pilots, they're just a pipe dream.

We are now just the U.S. division of Delta, we used to be the only division of Delta. SCOPE matters.

This is what our union should be saying.

There's a balance to everything. Without JVs Delta wouldn't be remotely the airline it is today, domestically or internationally. We'll see what happens. Overall I'm happy not only with our current Scope but our PWA for the long term.

This is utterly ridiculous and counter to any rational thought. The guys on the 4th floor want to outsource everything. Why? Because: money.

Outsourcing is cheaper. I don’t begrudge them their position, but I’ll fight it as much as I can. I want big jets and a big time career: for me. For us. In Delta uniforms, on Delta metal.

Just because you got hired young and at the beginning of the bow wave, and are living the dream as a very young captain, doesn’t mean the rest of us don’t want a shot at flying a big jet in the left seat in the future. Please don’t counter our Union proposals just because your personal situation is rosy. Scope is our career. It is the most important thing we have in our contract.

He's, as usual, off on his own wacky island. I was hired very young at the beginning of a wave and completely disagree with him.
