We are a very large domestic narrowbody airline with a few widebodies.

Over 300 bids awarded this year on A330 or larger equipment for Captains and another bid planned to be mostly widebodies in 8 weeks. If you count the 7ER category the numbers are far greater.
There is also the small matter of Delta hiring well over 5000 pilots since 2014. That’s more pilots than all but a handful of airlines in the world have in total. I suspect not a single airline in the world is close to that total hiring! Let’s not even add in the fact that starting in January we are taking delivery of widebodies at a rate far greater than anytime in my career.
I guess your right. Things are horrid here.

Not if the law was changed at the same time which would be very easy. Age 65 slammed the door on age 60+ pilots who retired literally days earlier while someone days younger than them got 5 more years at the top of the list. Where were those slam dunk wins? Put it in the law when you change the law. Easy peasy.

So with the very small MSP 717 category, how long is it considered a "new category"? If they were willing to deal with some small costs of a micro base for a little while, they could then rapidly expand it without giving out any additional new category "golden tickets". Well I guess that would be a silver ticket compared to an MD but still...

Big difference in what you are discussing. Age discrimination is illegal. The pilots your discussing had retired and were no longer employed by those airlines under the law at the time of retirement. Many did go back to work at airlines as new hires under the new law. Telling pilots currently working that the new age is 67 but we are going to discriminate against you when you turn 65 is completely different.
How exactly do you intend to write this law. How will it apply to all the airlines out there with different contracts?
Age 67 is not happening or even being discussed so it’s all a moot point. Pilots on message boards are the only ones pushing the issue.

I believe it’s only considered a new category for this bid.

Edited: the contract says a new category is one that has existed less than 60 days from the first opportunity to bid it.

Per 2.A.175, the MSP 717 category will be a new category for 60 days since the date of the first opportunity for the first conversion. I would surmise the first opportunity for the first conversion would be December 1, 2019 so 60 days after that the MSP717 category will cease to be a new category.

All the years you have spent on the forums is starting to take its toll. I didn't mention a thing about total pilots hired or things being horrid, all I said was I was disappointed in this AE and the fact that we are a domestic narrow body airline for the most part. Perhaps you should go get some help with your dependency on this forum. Try more family time and get away from Delta while off work...

Define what you consider for the most part? What is the breakdown of widebody to narrow body positions at Delta? Put some facts into the your statements.

It’s a new category for 60 days from the first conversion opportunity. So for this bid, I’d say it would have to be considered a new category until 30 Jan 2020.
