So much for rumors it would be a insignificant bid.

compared to what trip7 originally posted it's pretty insignificant. It's always nice to see captain spots but this is nothing compared to what was originally rumored.

140 new CA slots is a major bid no matter how you slice it. Especially considering there will be a follow on bid with more widebody stuff in Jan. Remember that the big bid was planned to cover the flying through next spring. This is a result of network increasing block hours well beyond the original plan. Some on here seem to think that’s a bad thing.

Free beer tomorrow.

Just kidding. This is a nice appetizer for what is hopefully a nice one early in the year.

opposed to 156 wide body A + narrow body A that was originally touted it's a significant change. Especially since the wide body As create a lot more trickle down movement.

140 CA spots out of 14,400 pilots seems pretty insignificant to me. Especially with 500+ CA retirements in the next year.

What am I missing?

The 500+ is total retirements. Senior FO and CA positions.

The other 4 bids this year including one that was massive and covered all the retirements.

True. Using the ALPA app, there are 51 FOs listed as age 64 or 65 right now. 516 total retirements, so I figured 500 was a ballpark number. I amend my post to “140 CA spots out of 14.400 pilots with 465 CA retirements”

Hope more CA bids show up soon.
