At the risk of sounding like a geezer I will point out that when a lot of the current senior guys were junior there was no GS leveling. If a senior guy was available he would get GS-2 etc prior to a junior guy a GS so the system we have now is pretty fair.
And at the current hiring rates everyone can quickly get senior if that is their goal. By quickly I mean up to 2 or 3 years not 2 or 3 months.
Keep in mind we had folks sitting FE for 5+ years and others who were the system plug at the 5 year point after being recalled from furlough.
All of our work rules can and should be continually improved to increase QOL for all Pilots, junior and senior but I just wanted to shed a little perspective on the discussion.
And yes Clamp, math is hard.

TOTALLY agree, when I was junior senior guys could have their free run of 2 GS before junior guys (making $24/hr BTW) could get a shot. It now greatly benefits junior guys with everybody getting a shot at 1 GS before senior guys get #2.
The 1.5 above ALV will produce little fruit I’ll imagine, open time will be snapped up so fast, the average per pilot above ALV will be small.

The elephant in the room is the question of why are there more GS on the weekends because statistically, there are actually fewer flights on the weekends.
At the risk of being chased from the room, I'd say because 1.) Delta didn't man the weekend correctly and 2.) More people are feigning sick on the weekends because they don't feel like going to work! (yeah, I said that!)
Actually, I haven't done a study of GS availability but I doubt there are more on a weekend as opposed to a weekday.....

The real problem is the coverage ladder. We keep making adjustments for the company with every contract. It is what it is, get used to it or be willing to say NO because of these lesser known or lesser emphasized concessions. Weekends are the first days to go to min reserves because regular line holders drop their weekend trips and reserves move X days. All of this is per the contract. There is no sick out bias. We are a 24/7/365 airline living in a 9-5 M-F world.

And well we could solve the jobs thing by eliminating regionals.

GS’s in my category tend to be on weekends and be puny, not-worth it day trips. It’s all to cover sick-outs. The reserve coverage is the same on weekends as it is during the week (the PCS system will not allow coverage to drop from blue to black under normal circumstances.)
And I agree: There should not be out of base anything. If you want to cherry pick a juicy trip out of a junior base (like NYC), then bid that base — with all the hassles that go with it.

Green slips come and go based on what’s happening in the category. If the alv is low and everyone is white slipping plus good reserve coverage that’s a recipe for no green slips. If we go with this silly proposed idea there will most certainly never be any. This will benefit maybe the top 20% of people in category.
