Question for you contract gurus....i looked but couldnt find a clear answer. Scenario,...a junior pilot MDs from Msp88a to Msp320a with a projected conversion date of November. A more senior pilot AEs from Nyc7erb to Msp320a with a conversion of May. Is there pay protection for sr pilot? By my guesstimate it appears not. Pay protection would only apply to Ae’s or Vd’s if jr pilot trained ahead of sr pilot and I didnt see any language pertaining to MD’s Thanks

AEs and MDs have separate timelines and you can see senior guys go before you on AE v MD or vice versa and you aren’t entitled to pay protection.

Pay protection only applies to similarly situated pilots. AEs and MDs are not considered similarly situated. Further, an AE that requires training is not similarly situated to an AE that does not require training. Finally, as in your example, it is restricted to an in-base compaison. When a junior NYC320A converts is irrelevant to when a more senior MSP320A converts.

Thx for reply. I get what you are saying but i wasnt aware of the separate timelines for AE vs MD. I thought I read it somewhere that if both pilots require training(changing aircraft) the senior pilot is pay protected if junior pilot converts before him in the same category. Apparently the caveat is MDs. Too bad our contract language requires lawyers to decipher.

If you read the info on hanger talk and FB, it sure seems like the company is in a cost cutting mode. I suspect they will push hiring til next year so they don’t incure any more hiring expense in 2018. I also don’t think they will hire til after the next AE. Depending on the source that will be Dec/Jan. That’s why I guess hiring in Feb/Mar.

JG was at the Holiday Inn the other day for the Pilot Training Social. He said new Indoc classes are expected to resume NOV/DEC by his estimates while Crew Planning is saying DEC/JAN. Guess we'll all see how it plays out.

I looked through the PWA but couldn’t clearly find what I am looking for.

When does your pay rate change when you are training on a new plane? Is it at the end of Sim?

PWA 22.E.6

If, at the start of your training, your projected completion date is prior to the 16th day of the bid month (not including OE), your new pay starts on the first day of that month. If it's after the 16th day of the bid month, it's the first day of the following month.

Just remember, 22.E.6.a.2 is a no later than conversion date. If you were going from M88A to 7ERB (or example), they could (and have) convert you on the first day of the bid period when you began training. Nice way for CR to save the company a few $$.

Example: M88A is displaced to 7ERB. Starts training Sept 23rd and is projected to finish Oct 20th. The company has to convert you to 7ERB no later than Nov 1st but they could convert you (and have done so numerous times) on Oct 1st, especially if it saves them $$. 🙄

You give them way to much credit for trying to puzzle all that out. Converting someone early normally means you have to conver others early who are moving up. They convert based on training and contractual Manning mins.
