There's more to it than the few who get the SILs. While they get whatever hourly amount of the SIL for doing nothing, the fact that there is a SIL means those left on reserve will likely work a lot more and possibly get hammered to the max in some cases. So its not just a free gift to a few.

While the MEC had some valid points (company offering SILs due to "overstaffing" but still won't offer an extra reserve X-day for PBS bidding) this has been a stupid issue to try to get the masses agitated about, all to create some artificial faux street toughness that only seems to matter to the FB and Sh!t Chat crowd.
Had the company offered SILs and the MEC never said a thing, no one on the entire seniority list would have cared or even noticed any "bad" elements to it. By the way, I've never bid for, nor do I intend to ever bid for the completely voluntary SIL.

You do realize that we have a lot of pilots on SILs right now? Has there been a groundswell of outrage from lowly reserves who are getting abused? I didn't think so either, because it just isn't happening.

I do think the relationship between the MEC and management has cooled considerably. Time will tell if that's good or bad. But I do like an MEC that is willing to stick up for itself when the contract is violated and not sweep it under the rug with a quick LOA, MOU or a grievance settlement that nobody knows about until it's presented as a done deal...

You are more than likely right with the bolded above. But........I suspect the vast majority are similar to me. And I never would have thought about not getting the extra X day etc. I'm very glad the MEC brought this to my attention and I 100% agree with the idea that any category with SIL's should have gotten an extra X day.

Smarter minds then brought up the lack of reserve extra X day and very few vacation move ups. In any case I won't waste further brain cells on the issue
