I believe 12 months after entry into service.

All of the LCAs have to bid it. If they can’t hold it, then they can continue in project pilot status for one year. But I would bet by the time the year is up, they would be able to hold it.

PS...the project pilots are still LCAs.

For those who have been through this
Is it better to be 30 percent on a narrowbody with almost complete control of your schedule living in base or being in base on a widebody but only 90 percent?
Goals are to be home as much as I can, right now I get any day off I want, I know eventually I want to move to a widebody but just don’t want to be at the bottom unless even the bottom is Better and a lot of captains have said there is nothing better than widebody reserve living ther e

The answer depends on how important the holidays are for you. At 90%, you will be working the holidays. If I lived in base, I would bid reserve on a wide body. As a commuter, I generally bid a line.

That still depends on other factors.

Not all narrow bodies are the same, and not all wide bodies are either. This also depends on how you catagorize the ER.

It can also depend greatly on the base. Some bases are full of home bodies who love to bid RSV while others are much more traiditionally "stovepiped".

Someone brought up holidays, which is a factor, but IMO a very, very minor one compared to year round QOL.

30% in category can sometimes get you some sweet trips and QOL wether you are a commuter or not. Other times, you need every bit of that seniority for it to even be tolerable. For example a few months ago, crew resources bragged that NYC717 had reached 23% commutable trips. LMAFO!

The large wide bodies are pretty much 100% international with a very high percentage of trips that are commutable just because that's how the schedules and flight banks work out. So in some cases, 90% there could equate to much better QOL than 30% in a harsher category.

To answer this question the best way for you, go look at the awarded lines over a several month period. Find your seniority and look up and down a page (some pilots at your level might have radically different bidding priorities as you so you have to expand a little to get a good view).

WB

International is a totally different animal.

If you live in base it’s a perfect move. If you want holidays off there are many, many strategies to get the day off. If it doesn’t work out and your kids are little they might grow up for a while thinking Christmas is on December 23rd but they’ll be fine.

Bids close tomorrow.

This is very good info, holidays equate to 5 days a year, and only two that I care about. So that’s a non issue for me and yes Christmas can be on December 23
I have been told some great things in the last couple days, thanks
