OK. Yes. I was wrong on the numbers. But I standby the rest. I’ve been waiting for a pause in hiring for awhile. Anyone who thought we’d not occasionally pause doesn’t understand airline history. A few years ago we all would’ve lost money betting on how much we would hire between 2013-present.
Luckily we work for Delta. When the next downturn arrives we at least will be way better off than everyone else.
To listen to some of the newbs complain about not holding captain or wide bodies while being with the company a few years is comical and disappointing. Be careful the company you bring that up with. Many of us had a rough haul after 911 and really don’t care to listen to someone complain about their current situation.... which is the best it’s been... maybe ever.
This should be fun.

The company is going to need to balance a potential snowballing avalanche of training due to 2nd/3rd+ order MDs with the current overstaffing situation in certain categories. Just 1 hypothetical: a senior MSP88a displaces ATL320a who displaces ATL717a who displaces NYC320a who displaces ATL7erb who displaces ATL88b (or whatever hierarchy works seniority-wise). 1 guy getting bumped creates 5 training events, obviously a contrived example but better odds than some oddball domicile like SLC getting a new plane this bid... At some point I'd imagine the company will determine it's more beneficial to have a few overstaffed categories vice an exponential training nightmare. If the company chooses the training route, it could put a damper on hiring which in turn means GS city next summer when we don't have enough pilots to fly the line... So many possibilities here!
edit: btw, have they loaded the CS100 into icrew yet? I was trying to get a count of people in front of me and I am getting a message that "cs1 equipment is not valid for base"

This bid showing the need for 1034 positions that are vacant now. We are over staffed according to the latest news but seeing that and conventional wisdom shows we need about 1000 new pilots through next June. Add in early retirements and the Big D needs bodies just like they have said.
You millennials need to buck up. Things are not bad or dire. We are growing. We are profitable. We are retiring huge numbers. We are tired of snowflakes whining about minor issues. Man up dudes. You have it great. Sorry you can’t hold 7ER A at 3 1/2 years. Deal with it.

No one is complaining about quick upgrades or anything of that nature. I love working here. But for the last two years we have heard that the c series will either be in nyc or lax. Should crew resources be obligated to open those bases because they said that, absolutely not. But when Salt Lake City was never mentioned and now it’s in the first ae, that’s a little crazy. Did someone just wake up yesterday and go hey! Salt Lake City! Let’s do it! No, they didn’t this was obviously decided a long time ago. I’m glad they don’t make decisions based on pilots needs because we would go out of business, But this makes it very difficult to plan long term. Where will the next c series go to? For all we know it will probably be msp because there are no 717 there. But if I’m a pilot who’s been here for 7-10 years or so and planning my first upgrade and it’s either going to be 717 or c series, id like to know if this plane will be in every base eventually or just coastal bases (and salt lake apparently). I would also know how long the 717 will be here.
Anyways congrats slc folks

They're not trying to deceive us in any way with things like this. They are really just making snap decisions based on chasing theoretical pennies in some cases. Its as simple as that.
