Caveat being if you are in a category that has posted displacements it's in your best interest to only put a MD bid in and no AE or VD bid.

Dumb AE question.
New Guy (7 months on property), NYC 7ER
With my seat lock, I can only put other ER bases on there, right?
Now for the displacement bid, can I put anything I have a prayer of holding there, if I get MD'd off the ER? Doesn't have to be things with a vacancy at the moment, say if I get displaced off the ER, I could say to 73N ATL provided someone junior to me is holding it?

For most people, I think this sort of leaves questions about the level of decision making going on. It is my opinion that CR uses the 365 day conversion window against their own wishes to hedge against Marketing’s constant changing of plans to insulate things a little on the CR side.
Delta likes to point out that all these decisions are driven by our Marketing/network department. Are they taking advantage of Deltas in house Operations Research department? An OR based management of the scheduling and staffing puzzle has saved other airlines millions of dollars. Maybe we should try it too.

This bid showing the need for 1034 positions that are vacant now. We are over staffed according to the latest news but seeing that and conventional wisdom shows we need about 1000 new pilots through next June. Add in early retirements and the Big D needs bodies just like they have said.
You millennials need to buck up. Things are not bad or dire. We are growing. We are profitable. We are retiring huge numbers. We are tired of snowflakes whining about minor issues. Man up dudes. You have it great. Sorry you can’t hold 7ER A at 3 1/2 years. Deal with it.

This is correct however they stated it covers 80 to 90% of next summers flying so another 100 to 200 positions need to be posted. If fuel goes to 90 a barrel that could drop to zero. If fuel goes to 50 a barrel it could become 500 more. The current 75 a barrel is a serious crimp in airline business plans. It’s going to hit Delta this year to the tune of 2 billion dollars.
