Too true. My thoughts, plus $3, will get you a cup of coffee.

Default Thank you.

Great post. I also have a teen that is looking into aviation as a career and this is some great info to have from an insider's prospective....

It's been proven that a monkey can be "trained" to fly a rocket/plane.

Doesn't make the monkey any more of a pleasure to spend 8 hrs a day side-by-side and to have a beer with.

Sounds like someone is cranky about civilian pilots mucking up the process...the time line seems about right. With some exceptions, pre-96 NWA had a large mil component, but not as much as others. Late 70s was heavy civ, though.

Pre-2000s FedEx was very heavy mil...

As a matter of fact, pre-mid to late 80s, all of the "trunks" or "legacies" heavily favored the military, leaving the "local service carriers" like Allegheny, Piedmont, Ozark, North Central, etc to be more flexible in who they hired. The late 80s was the first time civilian guys had a even shot at some places.

I'm pretty certain this guy is trolling. 5 posts total and 3 of them are cut and pastes of this in other sections. If he's serious, I'd like to personally thank him for choosing FedEx.

No. Obviously not a troll. But someone who is very bothered about what he feels is wrong.

We might take him a bit more seriously if he didn't overdo it on the "aviator" bit. Capitalizing "Captain" and "Standard Check Airman"--repeatedly--doesn't help either.

-2016 Delta hired 51% civilian
-2017 Delta hired 56% civilian

The military doesn’t have 20,000 pilots to replace the massive retirements for the next 15-20 years. It’s just a matter of time until the majority of the legacy/LLC/cargo pilots are civilian. Interesting times we are living.
