T-Mobile international data is very slow, and it is 2G, not 3G in most places. Basically, Edge speeds while abroad, although you can pay a daily upcharge for higher speeds. Domestically, it stinks, and keep in mind that with the new T-Mobile One plan, you are limited to 200mb of domestic roaming (i.e. no T-Mobile towers)...even though the plan is "unlimited." Simple-Choice plans had an even lower limit. After exceeding this, your data roaming is cut-off for the remainder of your billing cycle. It's fine in the cities but very poor in rural areas, and generally my experience has been poor coverage inside some buildings/airports within cities. For frequent international travel, it is a nice option to have in your back pocket and to carry your telephone number with you everywhere, but practically speaking is not very useful from a data standpoint in most places overseas.

it's 3G if you pay the $5 extra a month that comes with unlimited gogo as well...in my opinion thats a no brainer add.

You have to enable it in your phone. Here's some directions:

No. It is double 2G speeds, which is well short of 3G speeds.

I have TMO and it's sufficient for a mature male on all continents. It works well enough.

As others have said, watch out for the 200MB "Domestic Data Roaming" limit on T-Mobile. I discovered it the hard way last week on a fishing trip with no T-Mobile towers.
