That makes sense now, thanks for the explanation.

since you asked...

After the Air Mail scandal of 1934, the U.S. government concluded that such large holding companies as United Aircraft and Transport were anti-competitive, and new antitrust laws were passed forbidding airframe or engine manufacturers from having interests in airlines, and United Aircraft and Transport broke into three separate companies. Its manufacturing interests east of the Mississippi River (Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky, Vought, and Hamilton Standard Propeller Company) were organized as the United Aircraft Corporation (now United Technologies Corporation), headquartered in Hartford with Rentschler as president. The western manufacturing interests (including Northrop Aviation Corporation, formerly Avion Corporation), were folded into Boeing, headquartered in Seattle. United Airlines became a separate company.(Wikipedia)

But the good news is we may never buy another 737 and have a yuge fleet of 321s. So there's that.
Only 38 767-400s were delivered. 155 717s were delivered. C series has 360 orders, and the production is still in its infancy. Lots of airlines are likely sitting on the sidelines until it looks like the program will make it and that BBD stays alive before they order. Regardless, I think, unless something drastic happens in the next couple years, there will be a lot more C series produced than either of those planes...even if no US carrier takes a single delivery.

How about BBD sells, say, 75 CSeries aircraft to Air Canada. Air Canada suddenly has buyer's remorse and offers their slightly used, always hangared aircraft to Delta. There's gotta be a loophole somewhere.

Air Canada has 45 CS300s on order and more options. We are going to see more CSeries airplanes (even JB is interested in the CSeries as an E190 replacement) and Boeing is trying its best to stifle the program. Again, the merits of the case are not favorable for Boeing (no direct financial harm) but this is entirely political. I expect Ed Bastian will vigorously fight this and hopefully keep everything moving forward... SWISS loves the CS100 and I am sure it will be a very efficient and profitable addition to the Delta fleet.

Regardless of how this turns out the Cseries needs orders and soon or the plug will have to be pulled. To put things in perspective the 737 backlog on orders is around 4000 firm with more options. Several of the Cseries orders like Republics are paper orders only.
