Is DL going to spring for the HUD option on these jets?

So I have heard approximately 15 different people on various forums say that they heard of a potential c-series base in Texas, virtual or otherwise. Unless the fake rumor network is strong, this one seems to be gaining steam. I've heard DFW, AUS, and SAT mentioned.

Anybody else heard anything on this? Anybody know somebody that would know? I'm guessing this is one of 2 or three COA's that are up for debate on the 4th floor and that is where the nugget of truth is coming from.

The company can't look at a VB until they see the makeup off who bids to the C series in the first few bids. At the moment the first base is not even set in stone. Realistically they could not open a VB there until after the trial window is over in Jan of 19.
If the company really believes they have the potential for a Midwest base year round it would be cheaper to open it as a normal base. That could be done at any time after the first delivery and would insure staffing.
To keep the entire discussion real the only reference the company has posted to a VB is a possible mid continent base. The entire Midwest base rumor came from one pilots post here. I suspect if the first base is LAX the only VB that would make sense is SFO.

The reason I posted is that I've seen several people reference hearing during CQ about a potential Texas base. Some have said virtual and some have said regular. I'm just wondering if anyone else has heard the same.

Not to mention that the Midwest base was mentioned in direct communication from crew resources in that MSP Q&A.

My prediction is the first VB will be CVG 73N. Right after they close CVG. Low impact, no harm. Camel gets a neck and from hooves in the tent.

Why would you go to the expense to close a base and then open it with a VB that operates at a higher cost structure?

So if a VB operates at a higher cost structure than a regular base, why would the company even entertain a VB?

Seasonal bases where they might pull capacity up or down. They avoid the expensive process of mandatory displacements.
