You are correct, sir. If you're the CEO today and plan on running, let's say some fictitious train company in a few years from now, why would you care about costs 10 years down the road? You're gonna be worried about getting cheap stuff to pump stocks. Next, you'll be worrying about getting trains there tomorrow while you're working your shipping company CEO job potential. Nevermind the trains will break 5-10 years from now due to a decision you made today. Who cares? You got yours!

That is the main reason why unmanned (or even single-pilot) airliners are unlikely in the foreseeable future. It can be done, but it won't return enough money in time to adequately reward the CEOs who must pay for it in advance. They are not interested in eroding today's stock price and dividends to enrich their distant successors.

"Parenthetically, the Delta testimony revealed that its transaction with BBD priced the CS100 as a 1,000-mile airplane. Should Delta begin using the aircraft on longer routes, additional monies will be paid to Bombardier."

(I have not read all comments to see if this particular one had been adressed - just in case):

But what you said doesn't make sense. It's pretty rare that any plane flies it's max range on a given route. If you don't need it, don't pay for it. I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing...

"Airline officials also rejected the MAX 7 as an option even if delivery slots had been available, calling the airplane rooted in 1960s design, an inefficient shrink of the MAX 8 and uneconomic vs the CSeries."
This is the best part of the whole article. The entire 737 line should be shut down. What a piece of junk.

I think the 737's dispatch reliability is directly related to it's lack of EICAS. Sometimes it's better not to know.
