It's more expensive than a real base if it were run year round since the company provides additional pilot benefits. The advantage to the company is they can pull it down without cost.

I've heard the sim has dual HUDs installed. Will our aircraft also be so equipped? What about the EFB option?

Anyone have any idea on the delivery schedule of these over the next few years?

First 35 must be CS100s and any airframe thereafter can be converted to the bigger CS300. I think 50 additional options on top of the 75 firm orders.

There is a built in EFB option, but we will use the DL EFB (whatever it may be) instead. The sim does have dual HUDs, but we still don't know if we are getting them in the aircraft. We used the HUD in training in YUL.

Maybe with the CSeries we will move more to an AA or LUV philosophy where they rely on the HUD for AIII/Cat III landings and do not use/maintain the autoland capability.

LUV uses it on the 737 just as Delta does because the 737 only has a two axis autopilot. You gain lower minimums with the hud. On fleets with 3 axisautopilots there is no gain in capability in most situations. Certainly there is a safety gain but bean counters don't quantify that.

Which makes you wonder how many pilots will actually bid it on a whim and a prayer of a few months a year VB only to be forced into NYC/LA for the rest of the year, and the correspondingly crappy NB trips those bases typically have.

Yes, I know, the C will reinvent the industry and have 50 hour legs and do 100 hour day turns to Alpha Centauri and they'll only work 1 day a month etc.

Are there statistics to show a safety gain of hand flying/using HUDs for <cat1 mins vs using auto land with traditional instrumentation?
