Or the leases are expiring and it may depend on the next deal whether they are kept or not.
I heard from a relatively reliable 4th floor source that the leases were being renewed thru 2026-27 on the 717’s. I will withhold absolutes until the official announcement though.

I’d bet this is correct. We only ordered 5 more A220s. With all our options, this seems to be a tactical move to keep the fleet until the PW1500 engines make it through the teething period and the A220s dispatch reliably. It pretty obvious we don’t want to be dependent on a new fleet type. Max...

I think the other thing that is going on is management is being deliberately conservative with over ordering aircraft right now. This economic boom is quite lengthy and they want to be able to wade through the next valley well.

Meaning.....the longer this wave lasts the more 321 NEOs and 220s will be growth airplanes but if the downturn starts to bite they can just as easily be replacements.

I was trying to think of why the company would order 5 more of the smaller version of the 220 at the heavier weight.
Someone brought up a good point, possibly for jfk to London city with only business class?

I was under the impression that all the earlier 220s are going to be given the heavier weight as well.

Either way, this aircraft is capable of that route...

It can....but remember, Bombardier did it with a 40 seat configuration. Can we reconfigure the A220-100 to a 40 seat VIP configuration and then sell those premium seats at a price-point that exceeds the cost and compete with the BA A318 and BA service? Maybe the increased gross weight will allow us to put 50 seats and bags (and organic British cat food) on it. 😁
