This. This is Deltas foray into killing the now economically disadvantages regional model.

Down the line the observer panel is replaced with a new one and you now have a hot mike observer panel. They are supposed to be coming out with instructions for the hot mike panel to go in pilot positions first, but if they have already then not all of them got the message. You can have them swap the panels at a hub, it doesn't take long.

As far as a second cupholder, some airlines have a second one, but it goes where our audio panel is. The audio panels go in the center console in that case. I believe the reason we can't have ours there is due to the amount of options we have installed in the center console. The full sized printer and phone are a big part of it.
Do those comm panels come in brown? The 75’s seem to be getting louder and have needed a hot mic for a long time. Sorry to hijack the 220/73 sucks thread.

Why do the plastic HUD housings exist with no HUDs on your planes? Looking at internet pics, there are plenty that don’t appear to have it. Is this a delta specific thing or just the way they manufactured it?

Also, are there adequate footrests? I assume there aren’t drop down footrests a la airbus...is there just a small fixed piece of rubber, or none at all...hard to tell...

How’s the cockpit noise...louder than an A320? Do you guys take headsets off above FL180?

Thanks

Delta signed a 50 year lease on the commuter operator slots at LGA, those planes have to be 55 seats or less. So when the CRJ200s run out of time, it's either the CRJ550, or the ATR. Delta's other owned commuter slots at DCA, ORD, LAX are all 76 seats or less.

While it is clear the regional model is at an economical disadvantage, I can not see how the A220 is now or in the near future going to be replacing the 76 seat fleet. Currently there are approximately 344 large RJ's (69-76 seats) in Delta's fleet. From what I have read here in the forums and else where Delta will only be adding 50 of the 109 seat A220's to the fleet with the bulk of the A220's being in the 130 seat category. There is no current plan to reduce the large RJ fleet. From what we on the Junior Varsity Team (Endeavor) have been told over and over again is currently Delta has identified a market for around 150 (give or take) of the 50 seat aircraft and will continue with the current DCI fleet into the foreseeable future. Also, from what I have read the fuel burn at cruse for a CRJ900 (3600-4000LBS/HR) and an A220 are very close. Advantage to the A220 for the additional 33 seats. I do not know the answer to this question; how much does crew cost figure into the economics of an aircraft? Currently there is a $140/hour (Captain) pay difference between aircraft. Advantage CJR?

While many Delta pilots believe the A220 is a CRJ killer and "Scope Choke" will see the end of the US Regional model I do not see this happening anytime soon. Given the fact the Regional will be around for a long time I have 2 serious question for you guys which I do not know the answer.

1) Is there a market for a sub-100 seat aircraft in the US airline Fleet
2) If so who should fly those aircraft, Maine Line pilots or Regional Pilots?

The simple answer is if the regionals collapsed, mainline would have to fly the RJs to maintain vital market share.

1) yes

2) 100% of Delta flying should be Delta pilots. But since that won't happen in one contract cycle, the least we can do is improve scope and slowly reduce the regional model.

Another point with regionals is that Delta wants to control their brand and image. Rightfully so. Endeavor does a good job at this, Skywest severely disappoints when it comes to our brand and how we treat our customers.
