350 Esv was open book in October. They’re planning on eventually making it part of the home study. It’s still hard. You don’t have time to go in unprepared. If you have to look up every question you’ll run out of time. So I’d still prepare like it’s closed book. And hey... we don’t get the knowledge like we used to. So this will be the base of your systems knowledge.

Tail

PS- content locker minus the LOD. So official pubs. Vol 1/2. FCTM. Anything except the LOD. I’ve taken 3 Esv’s at Delta. They’re a freebie in that if you prepare you’ll do fine. Don’t prepare and fail it? It’s a failure. One of your lifetime 3. Don’t blow it off. It’s a big deal. It’s easy if you prepare.

For those in 220 training. Have any of the instructors or fleet managers said what this fleet will look like one or two years from now, future bases routes?

Too bad they couldn't have secured a seat in the ultra-comfy 717 instead.
Give it 4 days of line flying, and you’ll have fingerprints all over the screens, crumbs on the carpet, coffee stains in the seats, water bottles lodged behind the rudder pedals, old dried lettuce from a Quizno’s sandwich in the side cubbies, and dried snot in the crevices of the pedestal.
Some people’s kids. #smh

They might hate their 2-leg commute, though. Not too many recent Delta hires have been stuck in NYC with no way out for a year. Add an AE delay, delay to conversion, etc... that could be a long wait for some low ssn pilots to get a better commute. They're happy to be here, sure...and probably won't complain so I'll complain on their behalf

Remember, not everyone has a 1-2 year freeze like we do here. Nice way to finish off paying for their own hotel in training.

Cue the horror stories about what you old timers went through because I know it was WAAAAY worse!

For reference, the guys in my class (Sept 2017) that got NYC, it took them 8 months to get to SEA, and the guy that wanted to get to MSP just got it in the Nov 2018 AE, will convert early 2019.

Agreed we should be paying for the new hires hotels from day 1.

Just did the ESV on another fleet. We were instructed to not utilize the LOD, but the other contents of our iPad in airplane mode were fair game. Handy for the usual assortment of oddly versed questions or answers (we had one about a system function during a single engine takeoff). Despite me thinking a single engine takeoff isn’t a good idea, none of the answers really aligned with the true intent of the question, but deep digging in the Vol. 2 unearthed what seemed to be the desired response. Turns out losing an engine at V1 counts as a single engine takeoff for purpose of the test. The open book concept got me to minus one out of 150 Qs. I really only took the time to dig into a half dozen or so questions, but it was a great piece of mind. No doubt you need to be up to speed to complete the eval in the allotted time, but research certainly helps to polish up the final product.

I consider it a valuable learning experience. If not for my time commuting to NYC RES for just a couple months as a NH RES I might have thought it would be worth commuting to an NYC captain where I’d have an uncommutable line or again be on RES. I know some do it, but that game ain’t for me. Better to learn early when you’re new and excited and have a (relatively) quick option out.
