had a chit-chat with a guy who put in for LCA. When I asked him how he'd survive the commute to NYC (he's a west-coaster), he said "LA is the first base". Take it for what you will.

I agree that it is odd that not many details have been shared. I guess with an airplane as versatile and efficient as the CS100, the route planners are probably overloaded with route options...
How about LAX to Hilo or HPN to BUR?
Probably end up with LAX to PDX or LGA to IAH....

It'll be interesting to see what it eventually ends up doing. I think the info about the LCA saying it would be LAX is probably accurate. The info about NYC was spoken more in the context of where the jet would operate... not necessarily where DL would base the pilots who fly it. If it does go to LAX, then it looks like the 717 will start migrating back east, maybe even to SLC as a pilot category, which has a lot of 717 operations.
That said until we bid it is subject to change.

We saw this numerous times in recent years both in discussions and execution. 777 misalignments, 717 opening too many bases too quickly, MEM320, which was literally a last minute walking out the door Friday afternoon snap decision, and I'm sure some can point out others.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if the first C Series base is still up in the air until the day or two before the AE comes out. There's a laser focus on penny pinching precision, despite the occasional 9 to 10 figure blunders here or there.

Separately, Delta confirmed that will use its first Bombardier C Series narrowbodies scheduled for delivery next year on high-value routes now served by large regional jets as well as for new markets that fit the 100-seater’s profile.
“For high-demand, 76-seat, long-range RJ markets…that will probably be the first selection” for new C Series twinjets, Delta President Glen Hauenstein said. “That will free the two-class RJs to replace 50-seat airplanes that are continuing to exit the fleet.”
Delta plans to base the first C Series in New York,” he added. “I won't tell you where it's going to go, but it will start in New York.”
Others will test new markets that might prove better suited for a slightly larger aircraft. “We’ll certainly have a few new markets next year,” he said. “But having a 100-seat long-range jet does open up some new market opportunities that we don't have today.”

What are some high value 76 seater routes that don't already have the 717 on them? ATL-HPN? LGA-Florida? DTW-JFK? ATL-Mexico? LGA-AUS?
