319neo didn't sell because it turns out airlines like 150 seat jets best. Jets smaller than the 319 really don't sell well at all, see cseries and e190s for details.

319 is my favorite airplane though. Super nice to fly, long range, high altitude immediately, everyone is on and off quick and still feels from the cockpit like a 757.

I'd love to dump the cseries for more 319s.

But really it's in the aisle. The wider the better.
I read recently that the CSeries offers 19 inch wide economy seats and a 20 inch aisle. The middle seat on the three seat side is actually an inch wider than the others two seats to "compensate" the occupant for not getting a window or aisle seat. Perfect for us obese Americans...

But from a CASM standpoint, nothing compares to the CSeries in the 100-130 seat range. The CS100 will become a big profit center for Delta - and that means big profit sharing!!!!

Boeings move toward emb would seem to endorse the PW gtf capable nb airframe is the future.

Ironic if it works out delta would be the place boeing airframes had to have engine overhauls done.

We do need something to take over the smaller markets as the regional model suffers from ever increasing pilot shortages and worse economics from increased operating costs, as well as providing a better product for our customers. The CS is a perfect jet for that, and I truly believe that's the main reason Delta bought them, price being a close second. But as a pilot, I'm beginning to think more along your lines. Bring in more 319's, make the category huge, and it pays more to boot. Less training costs as fewer pilots move about the system and more efficient scheduling, mx, and the like to offset the higher operating costs.

Its likely the c$eries operating margins make the additional fleet type worth it all.

The 88 was the lowest seat cost in our fleet...according to Harry. They havent hung around low bypass fan engines and all because we are losing money with them.

The c$eries will step into the lowest seat cost vacancy created by the 88 retirements. Only with a whole lot more to offer. We may eventually have 150+ on property...which should mitigate any costs of adding the type.

They just need giant turborops because notice the range capability of the c series doesn't interest delta. Atr should draw up the 100 seat turboprop they've toyed with, get funding for it, design it, put it production, flight text it and get faa approval on it and we could probably take delivery before C Series is available.

The E190 isn't really that amazing of a plane though. JB is looking at dumping their small fleet, which is already a fraction of what it could have been but they cancelled orders and options. We turned down used ones at probably borderline free prices relatively speaking. BA can buy them all day long and it still won't have a competing product for a VERY long time. They can hang GTF's off it all they want, and its still an inferior product, and they'll have to "dump" to sell any anyway.

I talk to several SWISS pilots on the boards who fly the CSeries - including a few who formerly flew the 319/320. After flying the CS100/300, zero interest in returning to the Airbus. They like everything about the CSeries from a flying and cockpit comfort perspective - it was designed by pilots for pilots...

And SWISS will fly them up to 12 sectors PER DAY from 30 minute hops from Zurich to Stuttgart to 4 hour flights to Moscow.
