I can't see any other option -- unless the AE is cancelled since they kept saying it's only C-series and narrowbody FO bid.

Now that my 2-year sentence on the 717 is up, maybe there'll be some super-premium narrowbody A vacancies. One can only hope

Interesting. I just read on Wikipedia that 50-60 767 orders might be enough to reopen the line in order to bridge the gap until 2025 which would be the 797 entry in service year.

The C series have more American made parts than the 787 from what I have been told. just fwiw

Why do that when they had a better airplane all along but decided to scrap it.
The demise of the 757 was as brilliant an idea as New Coke.

On the other hand Airbus offers the 321lr neo. 200-220 seats over 4000nm. Which probably covers most of the existing 757 routes?
I wonder which one Delta would get.
A less capable 321lr neo offering Commonality with existing Airbus fleet.
Or a brand new more expensive boeing design offering a bigger route potential.
You forgot to mention that it will come in overweight and over budget. But that's OK, with the ExIm bank in place they will sell thousands.

No one would buy new coke. No one would buy the 757 either. 737-800 at 30% lower seat cost killed it. Not to mention the ground support issue.
The better airplane in managements eye is the one that operates cheaper.

Technically i think it cud be said the 767 line is still open.

It kinda makes sense as a bridge airframe for the mom follow on .

And it fits with boeings making something old new again approach. Its a compliment to how good the 767 really was.

Well thanks for the history lesson.

Now, what airplane will do the job of LGA to the west coast without having to choose only 2 of the following three? Passengers, Baggage, or fuel.

I have heard from Hauenstein's bunch over 15 years ago that if they could buy any airframe out there it would be the 757. I think that is still true

Has the CFR been rescinded that would permit LGA transcons? Thought the LGA rubber band ended at DEN.

Isnt lga restricted on destinations beyond mid continent?

If this 767NG idea has legs, im really curious what boeing bag-o-trick treats will be applied. And what net result will be.

Good enough is a powerful operational and economic incentive in this business. And double at delta.

Im seeing a 767 with 777 struts, wing sections, and 73ng scimitar winglets.
